Chapter 77:
He had never once stepped into the kitchen. Even when I asked him to pass me a plate, he treated it like a pointless bother.
I had always believed it was because he was a noble Alpha and simply not the kind of man who cooked.
Now I understood. He was simply unwilling to cook for me. To him, I wasn’t even worth that much effort.
The gap between being loved and being unloved was painfully clear.
“Put him on the phone,” I said, shutting my eyes to keep the tears from spilling over, my voice rough. “Now.”
“You’re seriously such a killjoy.”
“Ivy, let me remind you,” I said coldly, “I’m recording right now. Unless you want everything you just said to reach Harold, hand the phone to Ethan right now.”

A few seconds of silence passed on the other end before Ivy let out a snort.
A moment later, Ethan’s familiar, detached voice came over the line. “What is it?”
“You have my phone.” I went straight to the point, unwilling to waste another word. “Send someone to return it.”
“Your phone is safe with me.” Ethan’s voice held no emotion at all. “When I’m finished here, I’ll bring it back myself.”
“Ethan, don’t push this too far!” I was trembling with anger. “That belongs to me. You have no right to keep it!”
“Wait until I get back,” he said, then ended the call, leaving behind the cold, endless hum of the disconnected line.
My hand fell limp, and the receiver slipped from my fingers and hit the carpet with a muted thump.
The servant stepped closer, concern in her eyes. “Do you want to use my phone, ma’am?”
I shook my head, a bad feeling slowly sinking into my chest.
Lianne’s POV
The air inside the villa felt so stifling I could barely breathe.
I had to get out, even if only for a little while.
But the instant I took my keys and pulled open the front door, two broad-shouldered bodyguards stepped in front of me.
“Alpha said you’re to stay home and rest for the next few days. You’re not allowed out,” one of them said flatly.
My grip tightened around the keys until my nails bit into my palms. “Rest? Or am I under house arrest?”
The guard dipped his head, his voice rigid but firm. “Those are Alpha’s orders. Please cooperate.”
A bitter, mocking smile touched my lips.
What was Ethan so afraid of? That I would show up and wreck his date with Ivy?
“Move.” I stared them down and spoke in an icy voice. “If I insist on leaving, are you going to stop me by force?”
Maybe it was the almost desperate look in my eyes that gave them pause, because the guards hesitated for a moment. I took the chance, shoved past them, and ran straight for the garage.
As the engine came alive with a roar, a warped sense of satisfaction rose in me.
Ethan couldn’t lock me away.
