Chapter 91:
The scent of cream spread through the room the moment I lifted the lid. Inside were a cake and a milkshake.
I took a small spoonful and tasted it. The sweetness filled my mouth and, for a moment, pushed aside the heaviness in my chest.
“Do you want some?” I asked without thinking, lifting the spoon toward him.
Ethan had never liked sweets. I thought he would turn away. Instead, he paused, then leaned in and took the bite.
Rola and Harold watched from the side, both smiling.
“Look at that. Ethan always acts distant; Lianne is the only one who can soften him,” Rola said in a teasing tone. “At this rate, we’ll have a great-grandchild soon.”
Heat rushed to my face, and my heart skipped without warning.
After finishing the cake, I stood up to throw away the box.
My legs had gone numb from sitting too long. The moment I got up, I lost my balance and stumbled forward.

“Careful!” Ethan reacted immediately. His arm reached out and caught me around the waist, pulling me back.
I fell into him, and his familiar scent filled my senses.
“Are you alright?” he asked, his voice low near my ear.
“I’m fine. I just hit my knee on the table,” I said, trying to steady myself as I pushed lightly against him.
He didn’t move. Instead of letting go, he guided me toward a nearby chair and helped me sit. Then, right in front of his grandparents, he lowered himself in front of me.
His fingers closed around my ankle as he lifted my pant leg slightly.
“It’s already swelling,” he said, his brows pulling together as he looked at the bruise on my knee.
From his pocket, he took out a tube of ointment. After applying some to his fingertips, he spread it gently over the injury.
I stayed still, watching him. My heartbeat grew uneven, hitting hard against my chest.
For a moment, everything felt unreal. The way he treated me now made it seem like nothing had changed, like he was still the man who once cared for me, like Ivy had never been part of our lives.
“I’m done,” he said as he put the ointment away and stood. His eyes met mine, steady and intense.
Harold chuckled and waved his hand. “That’s enough. You two should head out and get some rest. Lianne has been stuck here for days. Ethan, take her out to eat and let her relax.”
There was no chance to refuse. We left the room together.
The moment we stepped outside, I pulled my hand away from his.
“What do you feel like eating?” Ethan asked, as if nothing had happened.
“Let’s go to that place we used to go to.” I just wanted to get through this as quickly as possible.
The car moved smoothly through the streets.
Not long after, my phone rang. It was the officer handling the accident.
