Chapter 96:
But instead of stopping, he only grew bolder, lowering his head into the hollow of my neck to drink in my sweet mate scent before sinking his teeth into my lip.
“Mm…”
Pain and a strange, electric thrill rushed through me.
Ethan inhaled sharply, forcefully reining in the dangerous blaze in his eyes, then started the car.
The car moved steadily through the night. I turned to the window, only to realize the view outside was looking more and more familiar.
“This isn’t the road to the hospital,” I said quietly, turning back to him. “We’re not going there?”
Ethan looked at me, and a rare, soft smile touched the corner of his mouth, making my heart stumble. “We’re going home tonight. We can see Grandpa tomorrow.”
I nodded, and a secret flicker of hope lit up inside me. Could tonight really become a turning point?
As soon as the car rolled into the villa garage and the engine died, Ethan leaned toward me again, restless and impatient. His kisses fell over me in a wild, almost punishing rush.
I knew I shouldn’t let myself sink any deeper, but my body answered with painful honesty, powerless against the instinctive pull bound into our souls.

Suddenly, a rap on the window blew our intimate moment apart like a clap of thunder.
“Sir? Madam? Why are you still out here?” the housekeeper called from outside, her voice full of confusion.
Ethan and I snapped back to ourselves and pulled apart awkwardly.
He shoved a frustrated hand through his hair, then straightened my rumpled dress before fixing me with dark, burning eyes. “Should we go upstairs?”
My cheeks blazing, I gave a small nod.
Understanding each other without words, we quickly got out of the car and went into the villa.
We had only just entered the master bedroom when Ethan pinned me against the door before it had fully shut. His burning kisses moved down from my collarbone.
But just as things were about to go further, a piercing ringtone cut through the room.
I gave him a light push, my voice breaking apart. “Your phone…”
“Leave it,” he muttered, his hands never stopping.
But the ringing kept going like an omen, ending only to start right up again.
At last, Ethan’s patience snapped. He swore under his breath, took out his phone, and answered it.
“What is it, Ava?” His voice was cold enough to turn water to ice.
I watched in shock as every trace of desire vanished from Ethan’s face, replaced by a seriousness I had never seen before. Whatever Ava said from the other end made my heart drop.
“What did you say? Ivy is missing? Alright, I’m coming right now.”
He ended the call and turned to leave without the slightest pause.
Without thinking, I caught hold of his sleeve, my voice shaking with a plea. “Can’t you stay? You promised Harold you’d spend time with me.”
Ethan stopped and looked back at me. At that moment, his eyes were so icy that I could hardly recognize him.
