Chapter 104:
By next Monday, once the bond between us was completely broken, I would leave with my child.
And when that time came, I would make him give up any claim to the child that carried his blood.
Lianne’s POV
“I promise you.” Ethan finally agreed, his voice firm and resolute.
My tone stayed distant as I said, “I’m tired. I need to rest. You can leave.”
Normally, he would’ve turned and walked out without a word. But this time, he didn’t move. His eyes stayed on me, sharp and unreadable.

“Do you need something else?” I asked, my brows pulling together.
He didn’t answer right away. After a pause, his voice came low. “Where did you go today? Were you with Frank the whole time?”
The way he questioned me, as if he had every right, made something inside me snap.
I looked straight at him, my voice turning cold. “Then what about you? Where were you last night? Were you with Ivy the entire time?”
Ethan’s expression tightened, like he was holding something back. “Lianne, I already told you. Ivy wasn’t stable last night. It wasn’t safe for her to be alone, so I had to stay.”
Not safe?
I stared at him, feeling nothing but exhaustion.
The way Ivy acted before, she never looked fragile to me.
If anything, she knew exactly what she was doing. No one understood better than her how to manipulate him.
Even if I said that out loud, he would only think I was being unreasonable.
“Right, it wasn’t safe for her to be alone,” I said with a faint, bitter smile. “The moment she calls you, you’ll go running to her. Stop pretending. You care about her, and that’s your choice. And, similarly, I don’t owe you an explanation about where I was.”
Ethan’s tone turned sharp. “Watch how you speak. You shouldn’t meet Frank or bring him to see my grandfather. You know his condition. Why would you bring someone like that to disturb him?”
“Disturb him?” I let out a short laugh, disbelief rising in my voice. “Ethan, I learned that from you. You can bring Ivy to the hospital and show everyone how close you are in front of Harold, but I can’t bring Frank?”
Ethan froze, caught off guard. His tone turned impatient as he said, “That’s not the same. Ivy wasn’t well. She had an episode, and I had to stay until she calmed down. Lianne, what are you upset about now?”
The way he spoke, as if everything he did was justified, made something inside me snap.
He stayed with Ivy all night. Then the next day, he came back without saying a single word to me, only to question why I was upset.
To him, Ivy’s condition came first, above everything else. My feelings didn’t even seem worth considering.
