Chapter 113:
The host had obviously been coached in advance and followed with a loaded question. “Mr. Voss, as someone who played an important role in Sparkle, what do you think of Lianne? And in private, is your relationship really what the rumors make it out to be?”
Ethan turned to look at me, his gaze dark and impossible to read.
“She’s very smart and very obedient,” he said evenly. His voice was cool and magnetic. “She’s an important asset to the company.”
Smart. Obedient.
I heard those two words clearly, and they cut deep.
I forced down the bitterness inside me and shot the camera a playful wink. “As for what our relationship is like in private, I’ll leave that to your imagination.”
That vague reply instantly set off another burst of gossip among the viewers.
“For the next game segment, the two of you will need to complete a challenge called ‘Chemistry.’”
The host brought out the props: a needle and a length of red thread.
The rules were straightforward. Neither of us was allowed to use our hands. We had to hold the needle and thread in our mouths and thread the string through the needle’s eye that way.
This was a game I had arranged on purpose, meant to create an intimate and suggestive atmosphere.

Ethan held the tiny needle between his teeth, while I gripped the soft red thread.
We were so close that I could make out every one of his thick lashes, close enough for our noses to brush.
His warm breath grazed my lips, carrying that unmistakable air of dominance.
That was an Alpha’s nature. Even with him keeping it in check, the bond between us still stirred my instincts and pulled me toward yielding.
I held the red thread, shivering slightly as I leaned in toward him.
Camera flashes kept bursting from below the stage. From the corner of my eye, I noticed the director cutting the shot to Ivy in the audience.
Onscreen, Ivy’s usually composed face had twisted with jealousy. She tried to keep smiling, but her hand had already clenched around her dress.
The livestream comments exploded even faster, with countless people reacting in shock.
Lianne’s POV
“Just look at how close they are and the way they keep staring at each other! There’s no way nothing has happened between them!”
“This is so intense. You can feel the chemistry in the air. The way the Alpha looks at Lianne is full of emotion!”
“Ivy doesn’t look right at all!”
I tried to stay focused, but the intensity in Ethan’s eyes made it hard to keep myself steady.
His face was only a breath away from mine. If I moved even a little closer, I could kiss him, the same man who spoke to me with such coldness the night before.
The thread slipped past the needle once. Then it missed again.
Time ticked down to the last fifteen seconds.
He lowered his head and adjusted his angle to guide the thread properly.
With only three seconds left, the thread finally went through the needle.
Applause burst throughout the room.
I quickly stepped back, my breathing uneven as my heart raced out of control.
