Chapter 124:
I looked at his sincere face and felt a dull pain in my chest.
In the world of werewolves, one’s reputation could be worth more than their life. Gossip had already dragged my name through the mud for a long time, yet I couldn’t tell anyone about my marriage to Ethan.
“Thank you, Gavin, but I can’t,” I said, turning him down in a perfectly steady voice. “My boyfriend is only busy with work. He’s not neglecting me. We’re doing very well. I’m sorry.”
A few coworkers nearby overheard what we said, and the whole bus immediately grew noisy.
“Gavin, was that a confession?”
“Lianne, quit being so mysterious. When are you going to bring your boyfriend out for us to see?”
“Yeah, the guy you fell for has to be pretty amazing, right?”
Teasing voices rose from every direction. Gavin’s face turned red, and all I could do was give an embarrassed but courteous smile.
At that moment, a restrained cough sounded from the back of the bus.
“Ahem.”
It was Ethan. His voice was not loud, but it was enough to make the bus fall quiet almost at once.

Noah hurried to smooth things over. “Alright, let’s pause here. We’re almost at the resort. Keep your voices down so the Alpha can get some rest.”
Everyone quieted down, and I sank back into my seat in relief.
Not long after that, my phone vibrated. I looked down and saw a message from Ethan.
“Come to my room after we arrive at the hotel. Room 608.”
I frowned, my fingers pausing over the screen for a moment before I replied, “I probably can’t. I’m staying with my coworkers.”
His reply came almost right away. “There’s a private hot spring in the room. I won’t be back for a while. You can use it.”
My heart lurched as I stared at my phone.
The nonstop filming and heavy workload over the past few days had worn me out completely, leaving my shoulders and neck sore and stiff.
I had never liked crowded public baths. Having that many eyes on me made me deeply uneasy.
A private hot spring was something I simply couldn’t turn down.
Since he would not be there, I thought it should be fine to soak for a bit.
After we reached the resort, I hurriedly put away my luggage, then quietly slipped into Room 608 while everyone else was occupied with check-in.
It was a presidential suite, large and elegantly furnished.
Beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows was a terrace, where a milky white hot spring gave off steam beneath the lights.
I took off my clothes and slowly lowered myself into the water.
The heat enveloped me at once, and a soft moan of relief escaped my lips before I could stop it. I rested against the edge, shut my eyes, and let the mist collect on my eyelashes.
For that brief moment, there was no Ivy, no mate bond waiting to be severed, and none of those vicious rumors.
