Chapter 132:
In the video, the guests looked at her with open admiration. “Ivy, your German is incredible. Did you learn it for a role?”
Ivy dipped her head, a shy, tender smile curving her lips. “No, I learned it from a friend who speaks four languages. Whenever I couldn’t sleep, my friend would tell me a German story until I fell asleep.”
I tried to smile, but the tears came before I could manage it.
My chest hurt as if it had been stuffed full of thorn-covered cotton.

So I had never been the only one listening to his German story.
What I had believed was something unique might, to Ivy, have been nothing more than leftover affection from their past.
I switched off my phone and curled up tightly beneath the icy blankets.
“Ethan, how much of your tenderness was ever truly mine?” I murmured.
Lianne’s POV
When I got back from the vacation, I was so worn out it felt like every last bit of energy had been sucked out of me.
The villa was huge and deathly quiet, exactly the way I had left it.
Ethan still hadn’t returned. I dropped onto the bed, too tired to even change clothes, and slept all the way until I woke up on my own the next day.
A shaft of sunlight slipped through the gap in the thick curtains and stabbed at my eyes.
I reached for my phone and scrolled through my photo album until I stopped at one picture.
It was the photo I had coaxed Ethan into taking with me. At last, it was time to use it.
A bitter smile tugged at my lips as I started typing a new post.
The caption was simple: a single red heart emoji.
I switched the privacy setting to “Public” and posted it without a second thought.
I badly needed some way to rip apart this false calm.
Less than ten minutes later, my phone started buzzing nonstop.
Comments from coworkers came pouring in like a wave.
“Oh my God! Lianne, you have a boyfriend?”
“That body, those collarbones, wow, no wonder you said he was ‘big enough.’ You lucky girl!”
“Show us his face! Which guy actually ended up with you?”
My best friend’s private message was even more direct. “Holy shit! Lianne, are you for real? Who is this guy? Those pecs, that build, he’s premium-grade male material! Tell me already, is it Frank?”
I read through the teasing comments without feeling much of anything and gave a vague reply. “We’re just seeing each other. I’m not ready to make it public yet.”
Frank’s message came right after. “Lianne, is that picture real?”
“No,” I answered shortly. “I just wanted to get under someone’s skin.”
Frank sent another message right away. “My new drama starts shooting tomorrow. Want to come by the set? It’ll take your mind off things better than staying home and spiraling.”
I looked at the screen for a long while before I finally typed, “Okay.”
To be honest, I didn’t care what anyone else thought. That photo was for Ivy.
