Chapter 167

Chapter 167:
“Bring something simpler.” As if he had noticed my resistance, he turned and gave instructions to the manager.
In the end, he chose two sets of rings.
One was a pair of clean, refined platinum bands, and the other was the pink diamond ring paired with a matching ring for a man.
“One for daily wear, and one to keep.” Without leaving me any room to object, he pushed the plain band firmly onto the base of my finger.
I lowered my eyes to the cold circle of metal around my finger, and what I felt was not happiness but irony.
What was this supposed to be? Hurting me, then trying to make up for it? Or was it just another display of his power as an Alpha?
We got back into the car after leaving the jewelry store, and a faint tension settled over the space inside.
I watched the shifting lights beyond the window for a while before finally asking, “Why did you suddenly want to buy couple rings?”

Ethan stayed quiet for a long time, then said softly, “We’ve been together for three years, and we don’t even have rings. I know I’ve failed in my duty as your husband. I want to make it up to you, little by little.”
His voice remained low. “When everything calms down, I’ll find the right moment to hold a proper ceremony for us and announce your place to the entire pack.”
I turned my head and looked at his firm profile.
At that moment, I could tell he meant it.
He genuinely wanted to treat me well, to repay everything he had owed me over the past three years.
But no matter what he did now, I couldn’t feel anything anymore.
“Make it up to me?” I repeated the words to myself, and for some reason, my eyes began to sting with moisture.
If I had heard him say that a month ago, I might have burst into tears and thrown myself into his arms.
But now, after everything, Ivy’s constant taunts, his distrust, and that signed Rejection, those words felt like compensation that had come too late to matter.
As long as Ivy remained part of our lives, there was no way things between us could ever return to what they had been.
Even if we reconciled, the wounds would never truly disappear.
I couldn’t tell whether Ethan’s sudden tenderness came from finally realizing he cared about me, or from seeing another man near me and reacting out of pure possessiveness.
I lowered my eyes to the ring, its cold shine flashing faintly, and felt nothing inside.
The ring Ethan placed on my finger was his overdue promise to our relationship, but my heart had already shattered.
Lianne’s POV:
The moment I pushed the door open, the scent of cigars and whiskey filled the air.
Inside, a few men sat around a table, talking and laughing as if they owned the place.
