Chapter 173:
She had obviously put a great deal of effort into dressing up. Her deep-V dress outlined her elegant figure, and the heavy perfume she wore was strong enough to make me slightly sick.
“Ethan, I remember you like the black truffle risotto here. I ordered it especially for you.” As Nancy spoke, she attentively placed food onto my plate, leaning toward me.
“Look after everyone else. You don’t need to mind me,” I answered with polite distance, shifting slightly to the left to avoid touching her.
From beginning to end, Nancy’s flirting was practically undisguised.
She kept serving me food, her eyes openly filled with affection.
But I never took a single bite of anything Nancy put on my plate.
“Ethan, thank you for looking after me all this time.” Nancy lifted her wineglass, her eyes burning with emotion.

I raised my glass and clinked it against hers.
After that, the other employees also seized the chance to toast me.
As an Alpha, I had an excellent tolerance for alcohol, but tonight, the liquor tasted unusually sharp.
After three glasses, I lifted a hand to stop them.
At that moment, Noah called. His voice sounded a little tense. “Alpha, we had a tire blowout. We’re waiting for the tow truck now, so I may not be able to come pick you up.”
“Got it. Head back first.”
After ending the call, I dialed Lianne’s number almost immediately.
“The car broke down. Come pick me up after the dinner.”
There was a pause on the other end for a few seconds before her slightly uncertain voice reached me. “Alright. Don’t drink too much.”
“Alright. I’ll wait for you,” I answered softly, and the irritation lodged in my chest was unexpectedly eased by that simple reminder from her.
Once dinner was over, everyone proposed going next door to the bar.
Nancy said the cake had already been arranged there and insisted on pulling me along to sit for a while. Since Lianne had not arrived yet, I went with them.
The private room was thick with the smell of smoke, alcohol, and artificial fragrance, so stuffy it was almost hard to breathe.
I chose the farthest corner and sat down, but suddenly, a wave of dizziness hit my head, and an unnatural heat started rising through my body.
Something about it was wrong.
A werewolf’s metabolism was incredibly fast. A few glasses of red wine should not have left me with this kind of intoxicated vertigo.
“Ethan, have some water. Are you feeling unwell?” Nancy walked over carrying a glass of water, and a strange look flashed through her eyes.
“Thanks.” I took the glass and swallowed a mouthful, trying to press down the heat, only to find my body growing even heavier instead.
Using the break while everyone else was singing, I got up and stepped outside for some air, sending Lianne my location at the same time.
By the time I returned, Nancy had already cut the cake.
She brought a small piece up to my mouth, her voice sugary and coy. “Try a bite. I made this myself.”
I took a token bite. The overly sweet taste immediately turned my stomach.
