Chapter 178:
I went over the details one by one, doing my best to keep my voice cool, restrained, and professional.
Ethan listened carefully, but his gaze never left my face. When I finished, he only said, “Handle it yourself. I trust your judgment.”
Once I was done, I collected the documents and turned to go.
“Wait.” He stopped me without warning.
“Is there something else?”
“Come here.” It was an order, carrying the kind of authority that left no room for refusal.

I paused for the briefest moment, and just as I stepped two paces closer, his arm shot out. He caught my wrist and jerked me toward him with abrupt force.
“Ah!”
A startled sound escaped me as the world tilted. In the next instant, I was sitting on his lap.
“Ethan! This is the office!” Startled, I pressed both hands against his broad shoulders, trying to put some space between us.
He only circled my waist with his arms and buried his face against the hollow of my neck. He drew in a deep breath, and a tremor ran straight down my spine.
“It’s fine. I just wanted to hold you.” A low laugh rumbled from his throat, his voice husky and dangerously alluring. His rough thumb brushed over the tender red mark behind my ear. “We’re fated mates. So what if someone comes in? It would be the perfect chance to make things public. It would save certain people the trouble of clinging to false hopes.”
His kisses fell over my collarbone in a dense, lingering trail, carrying a pull that almost dragged me under.
Make things public?
That single idea sliced through the fog of desire and brought my thoughts back in an instant.
“No.” I pushed his face away, my expression turning cold and firm.
Ethan went still.
“Why?” He stared at me, and something dangerous crept into his voice. “Are you still thinking about Frank? Or are you still planning to break our bond?”
“I’m not ready to make things public yet,” I said quietly, looking away.
Ethan’s POV:
I wrapped both arms around Lianne’s waist, trapping her between my chest and the edge of the desk.
She had changed.
In the past, she would look at me with reddened eyes and plead for me to make our relationship public, plead for me to give her a proper ceremony so she could stand beside me openly.
But now that I was the one offering to make everything up to her, there was not even a trace of joy in her eyes, only refusal.
“Why?” I lowered my head until the tip of my nose brushed the delicate skin of her neck, breathing in her faint, sweet scent. “Wasn’t this what you wanted more than anything before?”
With her in my arms, I told her again and again that everything between Ivy and me was over for good, and that there would never be anything between us again.
