Chapter 180

Chapter 180:
The other side stayed silent for so long that I assumed she had finally stopped. Then another message came through. “Will you come see me? Tonight’s scene is difficult. I don’t think I can handle it.”
“I’m busy. I can’t come. Do your job properly.” My reply was brief and icy.
“I miss you so much, Ethan. I still regret leaving you back then. If I had the chance to go back, I would never have walked away from you. It’s the greatest regret of my life.”
The words I had once longed to hear now stirred nothing in me except annoyance.
“Look ahead.” That was all I sent.
“I can’t! Every time I shut my eyes, all I can see is how good you used to be to me. Ethan, can’t we start over? Can’t we go back to when we loved each other most?”
I turned off the screen and chose not to respond.
But Ivy clearly had no intention of giving up. One call after another came through, and the nonstop buzzing made my temples pound with irritation.
I answered at last, my voice cold as frost. “Ivy, stop clinging to the past. You need to move on. Stop doing this. It means nothing.”

“I don’t believe you! You still love me, don’t you? If you don’t, then why did you give me that major project? Why did you keep protecting me?” She was crying on the other end, her voice breaking with pain. “Ethan, can you come see me? Just once.”
“Do your job.” I cut her off without mercy. “If you have nothing else to say, don’t call me again.”
With that, I hung up and blocked her number.
Leaning back into the broad leather chair, I slowly shut my eyes.
I had always believed that what drew me to Lianne was only physical desire, and that the mate bond was nothing more than instinct written into the body.
It was only after Ivy returned, only after I personally pushed Lianne away, that I realized my feelings had quietly shifted toward Lianne, the one who was gentle, yet never weak.
Maybe I had been wrong from the very start.
What I felt for Ivy had never been love at all, only a ridiculous sense of guilt.
When she came back into my life, I had mistaken that guilt for love and nearly ruined the person who had truly been meant for me.
Luckily, I came to my senses before the bond between Lianne and me reached the point where it could no longer be repaired.
This time, I would be the one to take care of her.
Lianne’s POV:
Around noon, I brought Bella to meet with a major jewelry supplier.
Once the partnership discussion was over, I stopped by the restroom for a moment.
The moment I walked back out, I heard a somewhat tentative voice call after me. “Lianne?”
I turned at the sound. It was Jeremy.
“Jeremy.” I smiled as I greeted him. “Here for lunch too?”
He gave a small nod, his eyes flicking past me. “Did Ethan come with you?”
“No, I’m here on business. I’m meeting a client.”
