Chapter 183:
As soon as I stepped downstairs, the housekeeper quickly set breakfast in front of me.
“Thank you,” I responded, taking the bowl of porridge and stirring it without much interest.
She didn’t leave right away. Instead, she lingered nearby, fingers tugging at her apron as if she had something to say.
I set the spoon down and asked gently, “Is there something you want to tell me?”

She paused, then leaned in a little, lowering her voice. “Ma’am, has your cycle been irregular lately? It’s been a while since I’ve seen you use any tampons.”
My hand stopped mid-motion, and my heartbeat faltered. Even she had started to notice that something wasn’t right.
“No, it’s nothing,” I responded, forcing a smile while pushing down the unease building inside me. “Work’s been overwhelming lately, and it probably messed with my cycle. You’re thinking too much.”
She didn’t look convinced. Her lips moved slightly as if she wanted to say more, but in the end, she held back.
I dropped my gaze and kept eating the porridge without thinking, my hands damp with cold sweat.
There was no way I could let her mention this to Ethan. I had already made up my mind to walk away from this place, from everything it held.
If he found out about the child, he would never let me leave. With how possessive he was, he’d find a way to keep me here, even if it meant using the child against me.
By eleven, Ethan came back home as expected.
Lunch passed in silence.
While we ate, he placed food on my plate but kept glancing at his phone, clearly occupied with work.
The driver brought us to the airport afterward. Ethan stayed focused on his work the entire ride, while I passed the time scrolling through gossip on my phone.
Once we reached the VIP lounge, he picked a single chair and sat down, flipping through a financial magazine as if nothing else mattered. I chose a seat by the window instead, watching the planes move across the runway, one after another.
From inside my bag, my phone vibrated twice.
Without thinking, I glanced toward Ethan and caught him watching me over the edge of his magazine. I muted my phone right away and looked away.
The message came from Frank. “Hey Lianne, how’s the trip planning coming along?”
“We’re heading to Zeramyth for a week.”
“Lucky you. I’ve been wanting to go there for the shows, but I’m tied up with appearances. By the way, how are things between you and him?”
My eyes lingered on the screen, fixed on that single word. I didn’t reply right away.
“They’re fine. I’ll just take it as it comes.”
I lied. I didn’t want Frank getting dragged into everything between Ethan and me, and I didn’t want him worrying either.
While we were still exchanging messages, a man in a suit walked over to Ethan. “Ethan, didn’t expect to see you here. Heading to Zeramyth as well?”
Ethan put the magazine aside and rose to greet him. “Hi, Richard.”
