Chapter 192

Chapter 192:
I slipped into one of the stalls. Just as I shut the door, the sharp rhythm of hurried footsteps echoed closer.
“Hey, did you catch what was trending last night?” A woman’s voice cut through the air, barely masking her excitement.
“I did! It exploded overnight and then vanished within an hour. Our Alpha is really something. The PR cleanup is seriously impressive,” another voice added with a click of her tongue.
I sat there on the toilet, my heartbeat stuttering.
They were talking about the rumors surrounding Ethan and me.
Lianne’s POV:
“What’s the buzz about anyway? I turned in early last night and missed all the excitement,” a third girl asked, curiosity lacing her tone.
“What else would it be? It’s about Lianne. Someone caught her on camera heading back to the villa with the Alpha several times. The proof’s airtight, even the license plates line up.”
“Oh my god!” Lily Clarkson let out a sharp cry, her voice thick with spite. “And what about Ivy? Everyone in the city knows Ivy is the Alpha’s one true love. Lianne acts all prim and untouchable, but she’s nothing more than a shameless home-wrecker!”

“Exactly. What a snake. Using her position at the company just to throw herself at the Alpha. I wouldn’t be surprised if she had something to do with Nancy’s transfer too.”
“Right? At the Sparkle launch, she carried herself like she was above everyone else. Who did she think she was fooling? If I had to stare at someone so cold and lifeless every day, I’d lose my mind.”
Their laughter bounced off the cramped walls, each word landing against me like a stinging blow.
Inside the stall, I sat rigid, my nails biting deep into my palms.
So this was how they saw it. I, the rightful mate, had been reduced to a scheming temptress chasing after my own partner.
I slammed the stall door open. The sudden bang made the three women by the sinks jump.
They stiffened as I stepped out, my face devoid of expression, the atmosphere turning heavy in an instant.
“Finished?” I walked over to the sink, turning on the tap with deliberate calm. My voice cut through the air, cold and sharp.
Lily was the first to recover. She flinched at first, then seemed to gather herself, lifting her chin as she muttered, “Putting on a front, are you? You’re nothing but a seductress.”
Without saying anything, I raised my hand and slapped her across the face.
Lily’s head snapped to the side, the skin on her cheek blooming red almost instantly. She clutched her face, staring at me in shock. “You actually hit me?”
“I did. You had it coming.” I met her gaze without warmth. “As an employee of Voss Group, spreading malicious rumors about your superiors, consider that a lesson in discipline.”
“Who do you think you are?” The other two women reacted at once, their wolf claws flashing into view, eyes gleaming with aggression as they moved to attack.
To them, stripped of my wolf, I was nothing more than an easy target.
