Chapter 197:
I remained in the dim corner, arms folded across my chest, quietly observing the scene as it played out.
“Ethan, it hurts so much,” Ivy continued through her sobs. “Every moment without you feels unbearable. I can’t eat, I can’t sleep, and I can’t stop thinking about how things used to be between us. I’d even give up my life just to prove how deeply I feel. Isn’t that enough?”
Her words overflowed with sorrow and accusation, as though I were the cold-hearted intruder who had shattered something sacred.
Ethan fell silent, his expression layered with something difficult to read.
He lifted his hand as if to comfort her, but in the end, his voice came out distant. “Don’t let your thoughts run wild. Focus on recovering. Your life belongs to you.”

“No! I’d rather die than live without you!” Ivy cried out, her voice spiraling into hysteria. “If you walk out that door today, I’ll jump off the building right now!”
The air in the room tightened instantly, thick with suffocating tension.
Ethan’s face darkened completely. He rose to his full height in one swift motion, looking down at Ivy, who lay weak against the bed, his tone cold and absolute. “If you’re determined to use death as a threat, then no one will stop you.”
With that, he turned as if to leave.
Ivy broke into panic, grabbing onto Ethan’s arm with desperate force, her body shaking as she sobbed uncontrollably. “No, don’t go! Ethan, I was wrong. I’m not trying to pressure you. I’m just afraid that if you leave, you won’t come back.”
Ethan halted, lowering his gaze to her, his eyes still cold. “Still planning to die?”
Ivy shook her head frantically, her face streaked with tears and blood, utterly disheveled. “I won’t. I’ll accept treatment. I’ll listen to everything you say. Just please don’t leave.”
Ethan gestured for the doctor to come closer.
This time, Ivy didn’t resist. She stayed pressed against Ethan, visibly shaken, clutching his arm as though it were the only thing anchoring her.
As I watched them, their closeness so raw and desperate as if bound by life and death, something twisted uncomfortably in my chest.
I said nothing and quietly slipped out of the hospital room.
The window at the end of the corridor stood ajar, letting the night air sweep in with a biting chill. I rested against the frame, my gaze fixed on the quiet darkness outside.
I had already come to understand that as long as Ivy remained, as long as she knew how to make use of whatever lingering affection Ethan still held, there would always be a distance between him and me that could never be crossed.
I was exhausted, utterly so. I no longer wanted to be entangled in this messy triangle of emotions.
The sharp rhythm of high heels echoed from behind.
Ava stepped up beside me, a knowing smirk playing on her lips. “Lianne, you saw it, didn’t you? The bond between Alpha and Ivy isn’t something you can just wipe away. In his heart, she’ll always come first.”
