Chapter 218:
Ethan was back.
“Back from work?” His low voice drifted over from the living room.
I raised my eyes and saw him seated on the couch, a glass of red wine in his hand, watching me without looking away.
He looked somewhat worn, a faint shadow of stubble darkening his jaw.

I quickly steadied myself, walked farther inside without meeting his gaze, and gave a small nod.
As I crossed into the living room and was about to head upstairs, he rose to his feet, poured a glass of water, and held it out to me.
“Drink some water.” His eyes stayed fixed on me. “Did you watch the interview from that day?”
I took the glass, lifted it to my lips, and swallowed a small mouthful, soothing the dryness in my throat. My voice remained calm when I answered, “I did.”
He seemed to be waiting for something more, perhaps for me to be moved, or perhaps for me to question him. But I only stood there in silence.
After a brief pause, he spoke again. “What do you think? If that still isn’t enough, I can have PR release another statement.”
“No.” I set the glass aside and met his eyes head-on. “I don’t have anything else to say.”
I watched his expression turn dark almost immediately.
“When are we ending the mate bond?” I asked it plainly. I had no intention of wasting another moment circling around him.
His entire body seemed to lock in place. Then he stepped closer, shrinking the space between us, disbelief and anger tangled in his voice. “Lianne, I already made our relationship public. I already cleared up every misunderstanding. Why are you still insisting on ending this?”
“Because I don’t love you anymore,” I answered evenly.
“So this really is about Frank?” His voice rose without warning. “Just because he stood up for you? He even came to me because of you…”
I frowned, caught off guard. “Frank went to see you? What are you talking about?”
Ethan seemed to realize he had let too much slip. His mouth closed at once, and he abruptly steered the conversation elsewhere. “It’s nothing. No matter what, I’m not letting you go. If Ivy’s existence is what’s troubling you, I can send her overseas. She’ll never return. As long as you stay, the position of Luna of the Thorn Pack will always belong to you.”
Looking at him like that, all I felt was a dull, quiet sorrow.
“Do you still not understand?” A soft, bitter laugh escaped me. “This was never about sending her away. From beginning to end, you never gave me even the bare minimum of trust or respect. Everything you’re doing now is nothing but that cursed Alpha possessiveness. You’re only deceiving yourself.”
I had no desire to listen to another word of explanation from him. I turned and started toward the stairs.
