Chapter 219:
“Lianne!” He wrapped his arms around me from behind without warning. “Give me a chance. I know I was wrong. I’ll make it up to you. I’ll learn how to love you…”
My body reacted before my heart did, almost wanting to soften in his arms, but inside, there was nothing.
“A chance?” I shut my eyes and let the tears slide down. “Ethan, in the past three years, I gave you more chances than I can count. When you stayed out all night because of Ivy, when you ended up here. I don’t want to keep being the one who comes second.”
I slipped out of his hold and went upstairs without turning back.
Ethan’s POV
Lianne slipped free of my hold and went upstairs without once turning back.
I remained alone in the hollow silence of the living room, the last trace of her warmth still lingering in my arms, while something heavy and empty spread through my chest.
I couldn’t bear to stay in that house any longer. Every breath I took there felt like a reminder of everything I had ruined with my own hands.
So I went to a bar and poured one glass of burning liquor after another down my throat.
The alcohol scorched its way down, but it couldn’t numb the pain still traveling through the mate bond.

When Jeremy pushed open the door, his eyes immediately landed on the empty bottles strewn across the table.
He knit his brows, came straight over, and yanked the glass out of my fingers. “Ethan, what the hell are you doing, trying to drink yourself into the grave? Did something happen with Lianne?”
I said nothing. I reached for the bottle again, but my arm lost its strength halfway, and my hand dropped uselessly onto my leg.
I sank deeper into the couch, a grim, joyless curve pulling at my mouth. “She wants a clean break from me… no turning back.”
Jeremy gave a short, mocking huff, like none of it surprised him. “Isn’t that the outcome you were chasing all along? So now that it’s finally here, you want to act like the heartbroken one?”
“I…” Nothing came out right, and my chest felt so tight it was hard to breathe.
“Ethan, I told you this a long time ago.” Jeremy drew in a breath, and through the drifting haze of smoke, his eyes looked almost brutally sharp. “Did you see the look in her eyes when you made Liam apologize to Lianne at that gathering? It was indifferent. The moment a woman stops even hating you, that means she’s already let go of everything.”
“Then why didn’t you make me see it sooner?” I straightened abruptly, fixing him with a hard stare.
