Chapter 225:
He would rather endure the torment of silver poisoning than leave Ivy unattended.
“Help me bandage it.” He looked at me with a pitiful expression and nudged the first-aid kit toward me. “I can’t manage it with my hands right now.”
I remained where I was, taking in the sight of him, disheveled, yet still carrying that dangerous edge.
His broad frame, the sharp lines of his abdomen, and the subtle tremor in his muscles from the pain all carried a strange, lethal appeal under the dim light.
The mate bond stirred violently, urging me to comfort him, to lean in and press my lips to his wound. But I didn’t move.
“You can handle it yourself.” I turned away, my tone cold. “If you’re willing to risk your life for her, then a wound like this shouldn’t matter.”
“Lianne…” He said my name softly, a quiet plea hidden within it.
Seeing no response from me, he gave a bitter smile, picking up the ointment with one hand and awkwardly trying to apply it.
Unable to see properly, he pressed against the deepest part of the wound more than once, each time letting out a restrained groan.

He reached for the gauze, attempting to wrap it around his shoulder, but his clumsy movements only made the blood seep faster.
I watched him struggle, stubborn and unyielding, and in the end, my resolve faltered.
I yanked the gauze from his grasp and lowered myself in front of him without a word.
With steady, deliberate care, I wiped away the blood surrounding the injury, my fingertips brushing against his burning skin and leaving my thoughts momentarily unfocused.
Ethan’s eyes stayed locked on me the entire time, unwavering and intense.
“Lianne,” he said suddenly, his voice low, almost drawing me in. “You still care about me, don’t you?”
My hands tightened without warning as I secured the bandage, pulling it firm enough to make him draw in a sharp, strained breath.
I lifted my gaze and met his eyes, so full of fragile hope, and for a fleeting moment, it felt almost absurd.
“Care about you?” A faint, bitter laugh slipped from my lips as I finished tying the bandage neatly and rose to my feet. “Does any of that even matter anymore? We’re about to end things.”
I watched the light in his eyes dim, bit by bit. A brief flicker of vindictive satisfaction stirred within me, only to be swallowed by something heavier, colder, an overwhelming sense of emptiness.
“I’m done here. I’ll leave first.”
“Wait.” Ethan stepped closer. “Lianne, when you see my injury like this, do you truly feel nothing at all?”
Lianne’s POV
I instinctively looked away, refusing to meet his eyes.
“Stop fixating on things that don’t matter.” I drew in a steady breath, my voice level, almost detached. “You should get a doctor to deal with your injuries, change into something clean, and go back to the hospital to see Ivy. Right now, she needs you.”
Ethan’s expression shifted in an instant.
