Chapter 227:
Before I could even process what was happening, the door flew open. Two broad-shouldered men dressed in black leapt out, moving with swift precision.
One of them pressed a cloth soaked in a sharp, chemical scent over my mouth, while the other seized me roughly and dragged me into the van.
Everything unfolded in an instant. In less than a minute, I vanished from the crowded street.
Darkness swallowed me, and my consciousness began to fade as a suffocating wave of fear closed in.
Lianne’s POV
The van lurched to an abrupt halt.
The door was yanked open, and I was dragged out before being thrown violently to the ground.
With my wrists bound behind me, I couldn’t steady myself. My face slammed against the rough gravel, and a sharp, searing pain shot through me.
I tried to push myself up, but the drug still lingering in my system left my limbs weak and unresponsive.

All that escaped me were broken, muffled sounds.
Then, a pair of striking red stilettos stepped into my view.
Before I could react, the heel came down hard against my back.
A cry tore from my throat.
The sharp point felt as though it was driving straight through my chest, forcing me flat against the cold ground as I struggled to breathe.
“Lianne, you never imagined it would come to this, did you?”
A voice laced with venom cut through the stillness of the night.
The woman in those heels moved in front of me, gripping my chin roughly and forcing my head up.
Under the faint glow of moonlight, her face came into focus.
She looked to be in her fifties, her features bearing a resemblance to Ivy, yet her eyes burned with something far more unsettling, madness and deep-seated hatred.
Her hand struck my face with a sharp crack, the force so strong that half my face went numb, leaving a piercing ring in my ears.
“I’m Ivy’s mother, Tiana Brooks.” She spat the words through clenched teeth, her gaze filled with a hunger to tear me apart. “Why do you cling to Ethan? Why should Ivy have to suffer? Do you even realize she’s lying on a hospital bed because of you?”
Before I could even process her words, she lost control, yanking my hair and striking me again and again, blow after blow landing without pause.
My head whipped from side to side, the taste of blood rising at the corner of my mouth.
The men in black only grew more ruthless as they watched. They forced my head down and slammed it hard against the ground.
The dull thud of my skull hitting the earth echoed through the cemetery. My vision blurred, and my consciousness began slipping away.
“That face of yours is quite a sight. No wonder Ethan’s so drawn to you,” Tiana said with a mocking curl of her lips, pulling a small, gleaming fruit knife from her bag.
The blade, cold and unforgiving, pressed lightly against my cheek, and the nearness of danger made my entire body tremble.
