Chapter 228:
The faint, chilling sound of skin splitting echoed sharply in the still air.
She dragged the knife across my face more than once, blood slipping down to my chin, warm and sticky.
“Does it hurt? This is only the beginning.” Tiana let out a cold, hollow laugh as she took in the sight of my bloodied face.
She abruptly turned, her finger stabbing toward a nearby grave marker as her voice turned dark. “Take a look, who’s that?”
With immense effort, I forced my swollen eyes open and focused on the engraved name: Marion Riley.
That was my father.
“What are you going to do?” I struggled frantically, broken, muffled cries spilling from my lips.

“What am I going to do? Since you care so much about your dead father, I’ll send you to him. But before that, I’ll make sure he never finds peace, even in death!” Tiana flicked her hand sharply and barked at the men beside her. “Start digging. I want his ashes out!”
“No!” My eyes flew wide with terror, a hoarse, desperate scream ripping from my throat.
I dragged myself forward with everything I had, trying to stop the shovels from striking my father’s grave, but the men in black forced me down, pinning me in place.
The harsh scrape of metal breaking through the earth felt like a blade carving into my heart.
After what felt like endless time, a dull gray urn was yanked from the ground.
Tiana grabbed it, raised it high into the air, then brought it crashing down against the base of the tombstone.
The urn burst apart, pale ashes scattering beneath the moonlight, blending with the soil and my blood as they fell in disarray across the ground.
“No. Please, don’t…”
Lianne’s POV
I stared at the shattered remains scattered across the ground, tears spilling uncontrollably, mingling with the blood and blurring everything in my sight.
It was the last thing my father had left behind in this world.
It felt as though my heart was being torn apart, dragging me into a suffocating abyss of despair.
In that instant, the final thread holding me together snapped under the cruelty of what they had done.
Tears streamed endlessly, tracing over the wounds carved into my cheeks.
The sting of salt seeped into torn skin, mixing with the thick, sticky blood until my vision became hazy and unfocused.
“Dad… I’m sorry…”
The words screamed inside my mind, but only broken sobs escaped my throat.
This was all because of me. Because I had loved the wrong person, because I had clung to something false, my father couldn’t even rest in peace. He was still being dragged through humiliation even after death.
I twisted and struggled against the ground, forcing my body forward, trying to shield the scattered ashes with myself.
But the man behind me let out a dark, mocking laugh and drove his foot down hard onto my back.
