Chapter 284:
“How should I know? Probably someone from Bridgeview Capital,” Alex replied, his voice tinged with uncertainty. “Didn’t Voss Group already send Noah before? A massive conglomerate like that wouldn’t hover over a project like this constantly.”
A small wave of relief washed over me, and I silently chastised myself for my paranoia.
Noah had come here before. With Ethan’s schedule packed to the brim, there was no way he would come personally for a mere two-billion-dollar project.
Besides, Brian had just said Ethan was abroad, preoccupied with preparations for his wedding to his new mate.
He was probably lost in the happiness of that new bond. How could he even remember me, someone who had vanished three years ago?

When I arrived at the construction site, Alex was waiting, grinning widely and giving me a thumbs-up. “Lianne, you’re incredible! I spent hours negotiating and got nowhere, but you stepped in and that holdout folded immediately.”
I allowed a faint smile, careful not to let it inflate my pride. “You’re celebrating prematurely. The real headache hasn’t even begun. The design hasn’t actually been revised. Once demolition starts and he realizes he’s been deceived, he’ll definitely call in relatives and friends to stir trouble.”
Alex’s smile faltered. “What do we do then? We can’t exactly rewrite the blueprints at this point, can we?”
“That’s why you need to go see him immediately.” I spoke with controlled calm. “Leave your briefcase behind. Act like it’s just a casual visit and get him to sign the compensation agreement. Make sure to capture it on your phone or take a short video so we have proof that he willingly accepted the one million and signed the document. This isn’t about intimidation; it’s simply a contingency plan. If public opinion turns sour later, we can show that he agreed voluntarily, and the company temporarily reverted to the original design in the interest of the project. Legally, everything will be sound.”
Alex froze for a moment, then nodded rapidly, his excitement barely contained. “Brilliant! I’ll handle it right away!”
Just as he turned to leave, he glanced toward the temporary office building in the distance, suddenly remembering something. “The investor has arrived. I need to deal with the holdout, so you handle the investor!”
“Hey, Alex…”
Before I could protest, he had already sprinted off.
I remained standing, a dull headache pressing at my temples.
For years, I had consciously avoided any dealings connected to Voss Group, barely daring to glance at news about them. And yet, fate had other plans, Bridgeview Capital had been acquired by Voss Group.
Just as my frustration peaked, my phone vibrated in my pocket.
It was a message from Tracy. “Lianne, Ruby is really upset, crying for you. Seeing her eyes so red broke my heart, so I brought her to the resort to find you. We’ll stay on the outskirts of the site, see you for a moment, and leave. We won’t disturb your work.”
Tracy was the only person who knew my hiding place after I left the Thorn Pack. She came to Brinewick often, helping me care for Ruby whenever she had the chance.
