Chapter 292

Chapter 292:
“The rest is extra, for the trouble I caused you. Just don’t call the cops or the insurance company,” the driver said, scrambling back into his vehicle.
I wasn’t one to let people be taken advantage of, so I called out to him, “I will keep the receipts after I repair my car. I’ll return the rest to you later.”
Once the incident was handled, I started my car again and drove toward the night market.
My phone buzzed endlessly with messages from Tracy, each one a voice note of Ruby calling out for me.

By the time I arrived, most of the stalls in the market had already closed.
Tracy hurried over the moment she saw me, concern etched across her face. “What took you so long? Ruby’s nearly asleep.”
I quickly explained the car accident, and she immediately scanned me for injuries. Once she was sure that I was unharmed, her curiosity got the better of her.
“Was the guy really handsome? And he just handed over fifty thousand dollars to you without hesitation?” Her eyes gleamed with excitement.
I let out a faint laugh and lifted the drowsy Ruby from Tracy’s arms, pressing a gentle kiss to her soft cheek. “He was just a driver. The person in the backseat never moved, probably someone important, just trying to stay out of trouble.”
At the mention of “someone important,” Ethan’s face flickered across my mind.
But I pushed the thought away immediately.
It was absurd.
That figure couldn’t possibly be him.
Ethan’s POV:
I hadn’t ordered the driver to tail Lianne’s car.
Three years had been more than enough to turn someone timid into becoming extremely cautious.
If I appeared recklessly in front of her now, she would just vanish into the crowd like a startled bird, and I would accomplish nothing.
Now that I knew she was in Brinewick, working at the Nexith Group, monitoring her movements would be effortless for me.
Almost instantly, Noah’s voice echoed in my mind, carrying a subtle tremor, a trace of shock.
“I’ve got the information. Lianne is indeed working at the Nexith Group, and… she is managing the resort project.”
An electronic file soon appeared on my phone, confirming the details.
My eyes were fixed on the section marked “Project Manager,” Lianne’s familiar handwriting cutting through the screen like a jolt of electricity. It struck me as if a hammer had shattered the fragile wall of reason I had just built around myself.
I stared at her name, a storm of conflicting emotions in my chest.
This was so ironic.
Only moments ago, I had resolved to let her go, even instructing Noah to cease all searches.
And yet, fate had arranged for us to meet again at a red light, as if mocking my resolve.
Was this a blessing from the Moon Goddess, or merely another test of my foolish, obsessive heart over the past three years?
“Sir, do you want me to investigate her activities during these years, including her social connections and where she lives?” Noah’s voice was cautious.
