Chapter 299:
I tried desperately to grab hold of something, anything at all, even a single piece of drifting wood, but it was as if invisible shackles had locked my limbs in place, leaving me unable to move.
“Severe concussion, along with slight internal bleeding. But she’s a werewolf, so her recovery ability is strong. When she wakes, she may have severe headaches and nausea, but with enough rest, she’ll be alright.”
A doctor’s calm, professional voice drifted into my ears. I gathered all my strength just to make my fingers twitch a little.
“She moved! Hurry and let the gentleman know that she is no longer in danger,” the doctor said at once.
The gentleman?

Who could that be? Was it Alex? Or someone the company had sent?
Before I could think any further, a sharp, splitting pain crashed through my head like a drill tearing into my skull.
The doctor quickly added painkillers to my IV.

The moment I got off the plane and heard what happened, I came straight here.” He carefully raised the bed a little higher, then poured me a glass of warm water. “You were incredibly lucky this time. The doctor said you were brought in at exactly the right moment, and the chief surgeon is the best specialist in this hospital.”
I gave a faint smile and said with a trace of teasing, “Looks like luck is on my side. I heard the doctor mention a gentleman who had been watching over me. I thought it was you.”
Brian paused for a moment, something flickering through his eyes before he offered a gentle smile. “What matters is that you’re alright.”
Hearing that, I assumed that the man the doctor mentioned had indeed been Brian.
After all, in a small town like this, who else would care that much about whether I lived or died?
But then, Alex showed up and completely overturned that assumption.
“Lianne! Thank God you’re awake!” Alex wiped the sweat from his brow, still visibly rattled. “If a kind stranger hadn’t stepped in today, the outcome would’ve been unthinkable. Those lunatics nearly—”
