Chapter 303

Chapter 303:
I knew it could not have been him and that he was far away, but those words had really sounded like they were from his mouth.
It had to be nothing more than a delusion brought on by stress and despair, a weakness buried in my subconscious that I still had not managed to erase completely.
“Settle overseas? That’s great! Take me with you!” Tracy said at once. “Wherever you go, I’m going, too. I can’t stand being separated from Ruby.”
I shot her a grateful look and had just opened my mouth to speak when my eyes drifted by chance toward the doorway.
Beyond the half-open door, the shadow of a man flashed past.
I frowned.
He had not come in. He had only lingered there for a moment, and the instant our eyes met, he lowered his head and quickly walked toward the far end of the corridor.
Something about it felt odd.

“What are you looking at? You seem distracted.” Tracy followed my line of sight but found nothing, then teased, “Could it be that some young doctor who has a crush on you wanted to bring you flowers, but got scared away by my terrifying presence?”
I shook my head, not daring to tell her about the strange feeling that had just come over me, much less mention that I had imagined hearing Ethan’s voice before.
It was too ridiculous. Even I could not make sense of it.
Ethan’s POV:
When I got back to the Voss Group, I had not even made it into the conference room to deal with those troublesome shareholders before my office door was slammed open.
Jeremy swept in like a storm, urgency and suspicion written all over his face.
Without wasting a single word on courtesy, he demanded, “Ethan, are you out of your mind? You suddenly announced that you have a new mate and that you’re getting married? Who exactly is she?”
I sat in my office chair, turning over the project papers in my hands without lifting my head, my voice as casual as if we were discussing the weather. “It doesn’t matter.”
“It doesn’t matter?” Jeremy yanked the papers out of my hands, braced himself against the desk, and locked his eyes onto mine, his voice dropping with accusation. “Tell me the truth. Is it Lianne? You’ve found her, haven’t you?”
The moment that name was spoken, my fingers went still. A blunt, piercing pain drove deep into my chest.
I raised my eyes to meet his searching stare, my voice cold as ice. “I have nothing to do with her anymore. Not three years ago, and even less now.”
Jeremy looked more confused by the second, his brows drawn tight as he brought up that revolting name. “Then who is it? It can’t be Ivy, can it? Don’t tell me you’ve actually been swayed by her so-called remorse—”
“Enough!” I cut him off coldly, and a trace of disgust flashed through my eyes.
Over the last three years, Ivy had not disappeared entirely.
