Chapter 314:
My heart dropped straight down. It felt as though all the blood in my body had turned cold.
I stared at him, my voice shaking. “What… what do you know?”
Brian let out a sigh, and something conflicted flickered across his eyes. “Jeremy has already told me everything. He knows about what happened between you and Ethan, and he knows your mate bond has already been severed. Lianne, you don’t have to keep pretending in front of me.”
My legs nearly gave out beneath me. The one thing I had dreaded the most for the past three years had finally happened.
Ruby was everything to me, the weakness I could never allow anyone to touch. I could never let Ethan know about her, much less allow these high-born werewolves to drag her into their power struggles.
“What do you want?” I stepped back with caution, my eyes filled with guarded suspicion.
“Relax.” Brian lifted both hands, making it clear that he had no intention of hurting me. “When Jeremy asked for a picture of your daughter, I was the one who refused him and forced him to promise he would keep quiet about the matter. If I really wanted to do something to you, do you think you would still be standing here safe and sound?”

When he saw that I still had not let my guard down, he gave a bitter laugh and finally said what he truly wanted. “I only wanted to tell you this, now that I know you don’t have a mate, that means I still have the right to pursue you.”
“I won’t agree.” The refusal left my mouth without the slightest pause.
“No one knows what the future will bring, Lianne.” His voice turned firm as he moved another step closer. “I’ll keep your secret for you. As long as you stay with me, I’ll raise your daughter as if she were my own. I promise you that Ethan will never find out she exists.”
It sounded like a tender vow, but in truth, it was nothing short of a threat.
He was using my child against me. As a businessman who had clawed his way to success, he knew perfectly well how to seize on a person’s weakness and use it to make them yield.
From the time we had spent working together, I had already seen that beneath his carefree, spoiled-heir image was a man full of calculation, someone who held absolute control over his company with an iron grip. Those rumors about him being a frivolous playboy were nothing but a disguise.
Fighting to keep myself steady, I tried to put some space between us and cautiously tested his reaction. “Didn’t Jeremy already tell you about the chaos between Ethan and me? Are you really certain you want someone as troublesome as me?”
