Chapter 318:
After sending it, I held my breath and waited.
One minute passed, then five, then ten… the screen stayed dark.
I tried sending a questioning emoji.
But instead of getting a reply, a bright notification appeared on the screen, saying, “Message sent but rejected by the recipient.”
Lianne had already blocked me.
The moment this cold and formal business exchange was over, she had not wasted even a single second. She had cut me completely out of her life.

I stared at the harsh notification glowing on the screen, my expression turning rigid.
Three years ago, on that very night, Lianne had done the exact same thing, coldly drugged me, then walked away, cutting me cleanly out of her world.
She truly had not changed at all. She was still just as ruthless as ever.
My fingers moved before I could stop them, and I sent her a friend request.
I had assumed there would be no answer, but to my surprise, she accepted the request, and her reply came almost at once.
Then, a line of text appeared on the screen.
“Hello. Is there still something between us that hasn’t been settled?”
I stared at those words for a long while, thoughts spinning wildly in my head, and in the end, I came up with an excuse so flimsy that even I found it ridiculous.
“I need the original invoice for bookkeeping. Would that be alright for you?”
“Of course! Where are you in Brinewick? I can bring it to you right away.”
Her answer made my heart jolt.
Bring it to me?
If she came face-to-face with me instead of the actual driver, my lie would be exposed.
She might never forgive me for it.
I drew in a breath and replied with trembling fingers, “I’m not in Brinewick right now. I’ll contact you again when I’m back.”
Afraid she might block me again at any moment, I hurriedly added, “Please don’t block me again for now.”
While waiting for her response, I opened her social media page.
Most of what she posted was about the resort project and news from the industry. It was obvious that in the past three years, she had thrown herself completely into her work.
I kept scrolling through the posts one after another until I reached one from half a year ago.
It was a picture of a small child’s hand with plump little fingers.
It looked like it belonged to a little girl.
I remembered Noah mentioning that Tracy had gotten married and had a child.
Tracy and Lianne were as close as real sisters, so it made perfect sense for Lianne to help care for the child and post a picture of her.
And yet, as I looked at that tiny hand, an unexplainable sadness quietly rose inside me.
If only that child from back then had lived…
Soon, Lianne’s reply came through. “Alright.”
