Chapter 319:
I reached out to Noah through mind link without delay. “Find the driver I used in Brinewick before and send me his current number. Have him return to Brinewick and wait for my instructions in three days.”
The moment I got his number, I called the man myself.
“I’ll offer you five million dollars.” I spoke without preamble. “I need you to cooperate with a voice-modulation arrangement. From this point on, I will approach a woman named Lianne Riley under your name. You are only required to appear when needed, and you are not to reveal the truth to anyone else.”
The driver was clearly shocked by the staggering amount on offer, yet even through his hesitation, he agreed.
After everything had been set in place, I leaned back in my chair and looked at the messages on my phone, my chest full of scorn toward myself.
A bitter laugh rose inside me.

I kept claiming I should let go of Lianne, kept telling myself she deserved her own life, yet in secret, I lurked like something shameful in the dark, even lowering myself to borrow a driver’s identity just to steal a few more scraps of contact with her.
All the cold resolve I had built over the years in the business world had collapsed completely the moment Lianne was involved.
Lianne’s POV:
After making sure the driver had not sent any further messages, I drew in a breath, set my phone aside, and forced all my attention onto the meeting ahead.
Truthfully, I had blocked him earlier for one simple reason: the car repair money had already been settled, and there was no need for us to stay in contact.
Besides, I was preparing to leave Brinewick with my daughter, and soon after that, leave the country as well.
What I had not expected was for another message to arrive from him right away. His words, “Please don’t block me again for now,” carried a strange urgency that left me feeling faintly uneasy, as though I had been caught doing something wrong.
Inside the meeting room, the light from the projector spilled across the white wall.
In the middle of the discussion, Alex suddenly called my name and asked for my opinion.
I rose to my feet, pulled up the presentation I had stayed up late revising, and spoke in a steady, professional voice. “As for the safety risks in the resort’s second phase, I believe inspections of the amusement facilities need to be strengthened as a priority. Also, there is a gap in how workers’ helmet use is being managed, and that responsibility must be enforced directly by each team leader. We cannot allow even the slightest negligence.”
“Ms. Riley is absolutely correct!” Alex answered almost immediately, his voice full of unmistakable praise and eagerness to flatter. “Did you all hear that? This is what real professionalism looks like! From now on, every safety measure will be carried out according to her standards.”
The staff looked at one another, then hurriedly nodded along in agreement.
I drew my brows together slightly, feeling a flicker of embarrassment.
