Chapter 322:
A trace of loneliness passed through my eyes, but I quickly forced it down.
I had already made my choice three years ago. There was no reason to waste any more thought on someone who no longer belonged in my life.
I booked my ticket to the Queen District, informed my assistant, and buried myself in the project files.
The night slipped away while I worked. Only when I rolled my sore shoulders and looked at the clock did I realize it was already two in the morning.
I picked up my phone, and that was when I noticed a message from the driver, sent about thirty minutes ago. “Are you going there for work?”

I answered almost absentmindedly, “Yes.”
The moment I sent the message, I thought he was probably already asleep at this hour.
Yet at half past two, my screen lit up once more. His reply was concise. “I see. Have a safe journey.”
Something inside my chest softened for no clear reason.
Our first meeting had gone badly, and we had not exactly parted on friendly terms. Still, in the middle of such a quiet night, his concern brought me some warmth.
I replied, “Thank you. I’ll message you when I return.”
The next morning, sunlight filtered through the curtains and spilled across my pillow.
The very first thing I did after waking up was reach for my phone. There was an unread message from the driver waiting.
“Good morning.”
A little startled, I replied, “Good morning. Is there something you need?”
The driver answered, “I’m sorry about what happened before. I’ve prepared some gifts as an apology and asked someone to leave them at your hotel’s front desk.”
I went still for a second, completely unprepared for that. My first instinct was to refuse.
“There’s no need. You already reimbursed the repair cost. There really isn’t any reason to send gifts to me.”
But before I could send the message, another message from him appeared. “This is how I want to apologize. Please accept it.”
Looking at those words, I let out a resigned sigh.
He was so stubborn that refusing him felt nearly impossible.
I got out of bed and washed up, planning to head downstairs, see what he had sent, and deal with the original invoice while I was at it.
Lianne’s POV:
By the time I arrived at the front desk, I noticed the driver had already arranged several daily essentials for me.
Seeing everything he had prepared made me pause for a moment, quietly acknowledging how thoughtful he was.
On the night before I left for the business trip, I called Ruby like I always did, and the two of us stayed on the call for quite a while.
Watching her smile through the screen, so simple and bright, eased the weight that had been sitting on my chest, and my exhaustion faded without a trace.
Once the call ended, I sent a large amount of money over to Tracy.
