Chapter 323:
For three years straight, she had taken care of Ruby and handled things in my life, giving up so much along the way.
Even though I knew money wasn’t something she lacked, I couldn’t keep letting her carry everything for me.
Not long after, a voice message from Tracy came through, and her tone carried a playful complaint. “Lianne, why did you send me money? Save that money for your trip overseas. I don’t need it.”
A small laugh slipped out as I answered her, “Just accept it. Use it to buy Ruby some gifts. And you need to look after yourself there, too.”

In the end, Tracy took the money, but she kept reminding me again and again to be careful once I reached the Queen District.
Then, she added, “Oh right, Frank heard about what happened at the construction site yesterday. He got so worried that he almost dropped everything and flew back from overseas. If I didn’t stop him, he would probably be in Brinewick already.”
Hearing that made something stir in me, though I couldn’t help feeling a bit resigned as well. “Tell him to stay focused on filming and not let something like that distract him. I don’t want to cause him any more trouble.”
After the conversation with Tracy, I set my phone aside and stretched out across the wide hotel bed.
Spending a night without having to stay up late for deadlines felt unfamiliar to me.
I picked up my phone again and noticed a message from the driver.
“Asleep yet?”
Thinking about how he had brought those items earlier to apologize, I figured he probably had something to say to me. So, I replied casually, “Not yet. What’s up?”
“I’m planning to travel to the Queen District soon. Since you’re from there, could you walk me through some of the places worth checking out?”
The message stayed on my screen as I hesitated.
Growing up in the Queen District meant I knew it inside out, and trying to explain everything in text would take forever.
I didn’t feel like typing all that out, so I sent a quick reply. “Typing everything will take too long. Do you mind if we switch to a voice call?”
A call request came in almost instantly.
For a brief second, I just stared at it. Then, I answered the call.
“Hello?”
His voice came through right away.
Hearing him speak caught me off guard. There was something familiar about it, but I couldn’t quite place it. The tone sounded deeper than I remembered, carrying a sense of age that didn’t match what I expected.
“I hope I’m not interrupting you, Ms. Riley,” he said, keeping his voice polite.
“Not at all.” I adjusted my position and leaned back against the headboard. “Are you heading to the Queen District with your family?”
