Chapter 329:
Lianne’s POV:
The man I accidentally bumped into turned out to be Oscar.
I’d been away from the room for quite some time, and worried I might’ve run into trouble in an unfamiliar hospital, he had come out to search for me.
The moment I recognized him, the panic inside me slowly eased. I exhaled deeply and explained that I had only stepped out to answer a phone call.
Oscar told me Bella’s IV treatment had ended and the nurse had already removed the needle, meaning we could finally return to the hotel.

I agreed immediately. No matter what, work still had to continue.
Still, the strange sound in the hallway and the driver’s unusual reaction over the phone lingered heavily in my thoughts, refusing to leave me.
The next morning, I first met privately with Oscar to briefly review the day’s schedule.
After Bella completed her observation period and was discharged from the hospital, the three of us gathered in one of the hotel’s smaller conference rooms.
Once we finished confirming the due diligence procedures and dividing the workload, Bella lowered her head guiltily and apologized in a tiny voice, saying her illness had disrupted our plans.
I walked over and lightly squeezed her shoulder. “Stop blaming yourself. Your health matters more than the schedule. Once this project wraps up, I’ll request additional bonuses and leave days for both of you.”
Bella’s eyes immediately reddened with gratitude, and after hesitating briefly, she still muttered indignantly, “Ms. Riley, you’re always so good to everyone, yet people in the company still spread terrible rumors about you. They even say you—”
“Bella.” Oscar cut her off instantly, shooting her a warning look.
I merely smiled faintly, long accustomed to meaningless gossip.
People who lacked ability often relied on rumors to comfort themselves. Sooner or later, the workplace would filter those people out naturally. They weren’t worth my anger.
Soon after, I began assigning responsibilities.
I instructed Oscar to discreetly investigate the company’s registration department and check its true operating condition along with any hidden legal disputes. I wanted information they hadn’t prepared in advance.
Bella still looked weak after the food poisoning, and her personality was too gentle for aggressive negotiations, so I arranged for her to remain at the hotel and organize supporting files.
As for me, I headed alone to the Power Group, the company the Nexith Group planned to evaluate.
The person who received me was the project manager, Jason Hughes.
He appeared young and polished, dressed in an expensive custom suit with carefully styled hair and the practiced smile of someone deeply familiar with office politics.
What bothered me the most were his eyes. Even while talking, his gaze wandered over me in a way that made my skin crawl. Though disgust rose inside me, I maintained a professional expression throughout the meeting.
After a while, Jason checked the time and smiled. “Ms. Riley, it’s almost lunchtime. Why don’t we continue downstairs over a meal? The restaurant there is very good.”
I refused almost immediately.
After everything I’d experienced before, there was no way I would willingly dine alone with a man I’d just met.
