Chapter 342:
Brian clenched his jaw tightly, anger practically radiating off him. After a long silence, he finally spoke coldly. “Forget the contract negotiations. The Power Group is already bankrupt.”
I stared at him in complete disbelief. “Bankrupt?” I repeated blankly. “How could a company that large collapse overnight?”
“I used my influence to crush them,” Brian admitted bluntly. “They tried to hurt my woman, so this is the price they pay.”
Watching his self-satisfied expression, I was no longer merely shocked; I felt drained, profoundly and unbearably drained.
I tried persuading him to leave room for compromise and stop acting so impulsively, but Brian just kept promising to find stronger companies for us to work with. Finally, I looked at him seriously and spoke in an unusually distant tone. “Brian, I need you to understand boundaries.”
I took a slow breath before continuing. “Your excessive concern for me is starting to suffocate me.”
Only after considerable effort did I finally manage to send Brian away. The moment the door closed, I leaned weakly against it, feeling exhausted as countless thoughts tangled together in my mind.
Brian certainly had power and influence. But could he truly destroy a major corporation within only a few hours?
And then there was the hotel employee’s strange description of the “driver,” along with the mystery surrounding my changed clothes.
Slowly, I pulled out my phone and stared at the driver’s contact number. My expression gradually hardened with resolve.
I needed to meet him in person.

I wanted to know exactly what had happened last night. And more importantly, I needed to know who he really was.
Ethan’s POV
My phone screen suddenly lit up with a message from Lianne. “Sir, I truly don’t know how to thank you for helping me last night. If you have time, I’d like to treat you to a meal and thank you properly in person.”
As I stared at the message, conflicting emotions churned violently inside me.
Given Lianne’s personality, I had already expected this. She would definitely want to meet the “driver” face-to-face. And if I continued avoiding her, with how sharp and observant she was, she would eventually grow suspicious, perhaps even uncover the truth and trace everything back to me.
For the first time in my life, I felt defeated, unable to take responsibility for what I had done.
That night in the hotel room, Lianne had been intoxicated and drugged, her consciousness clouded. But I had been completely sober. I knew exactly what I was doing. I knew she was only acting that way because of the drug’s effects. I remembered every time she whispered my name helplessly against my neck.
And yet now, I didn’t even have the courage to tell her the truth. Because I was afraid.
I, a man who never hesitated in the business world, someone whose decisions determined countless people’s fates, someone respected and obeyed throughout the pack, was terrified.
