Chapter 344:
Silence filled the car. After a long while, I slowly turned my head toward the passing scenery outside the window. A self-deprecating smile tugged faintly at my lips as I answered in a low voice.
“Yeah, she doesn’t love me.”
Lianne’s POV
When Alex called, I was sitting quietly on the edge of the bed, absentmindedly staring at my phone while thoughts of that driver filled my mind.
I needed to see him, not only to thank him properly for helping me last night, but also to uncover what truly happened after I lost consciousness in the restroom. That overly vivid dream, the strange disappearance of the drug’s effects, none of it made sense.
“When are you coming back?” Alex asked from the other end of the line.
“Soon,” I replied softly. “Things here in Queen District are almost settled. I should be back in Brinewick within a day or two.”
After hanging up, my fingers instinctively refreshed the chat screen again. I found myself unconsciously waiting for the driver’s reply.
A few moments later, the screen finally lit up. “Meet me at Glimmer Restaurant at seven in the evening.”
Relief spread through me instantly. I quickly replied in agreement before pulling the prepared invoice from my bag. After checking it, I put it away.
Just as I opened the hotel room door, I noticed Brian standing by the hallway window, smoking alone. Thin wisps of smoke curled around him, partially obscuring his expression. The moment he saw me, he extinguished the cigarette and walked over. His gaze swept briefly over the outfit I had deliberately chosen before he asked in a low voice, “Going out to meet someone?”

I had no intention of hiding it. “Yes,” I answered honestly. “I’m treating the friend who helped me last night to dinner.”
“I’ll go with you,” Brian immediately said. “I should thank him personally, too.” His tone carried the same familiar forcefulness that made refusal difficult.
I frowned slightly before rejecting him outright. “There’s no need, Brian. We’ve only met twice. Bringing you along would just make things awkward for him.”
He stared at me silently for several seconds before finally stepping aside. “Then at least let me drive you there,” he said. “Queen District isn’t exactly safe at night. I’d worry if you went alone.”
I checked the time. It was still early, and honestly, I didn’t have the energy to argue over something so minor. Most of my thoughts were already occupied by tonight’s meeting anyway. So in the end, I simply nodded.
During the drive, we chatted on and off in the car.
“Once the Brinewick project is completed, I’m planning to resign from the Nexith Group,” I said calmly while watching the city lights blur past outside the car window.
Brian’s hands paused slightly on the steering wheel. He turned to look at me, clearly surprised. “Resign?” he repeated. “The benefits at the Nexith Group are already excellent. If you’re just tired of the environment, I have several overseas branches where you could manage a team directly.”
