Chapter 348:
Every word carried a hidden implication, subtly declaring that Lianne belonged within his protection.
I sneered inwardly, my gaze sweeping over him with open disdain. “You’re the one who insisted on following her,” I said coldly. “Lianne would never ask someone to accompany her.”
Brian’s expression stiffened briefly before he quickly countered, “Ethan, you’re overly confident. People change. Do you really think you still understand her after three years?” His eyes sharpened slightly. “I know the mate bond between you two has already been severed. Since everything ended long ago, you should stop interfering in her life.”
I looked at him indifferently, my voice low and icy. “She hasn’t changed.” A pause followed before I added, “And you’ll never truly understand her.”
Perhaps Brian felt proud of himself for waiting downstairs tonight. But he would never understand that over the past three years, I had already accepted one undeniable truth countless times: if it came to Lianne, I would willingly abandon the Voss Group, my pack, my status, everything.
Meanwhile, Brian only wanted to possess her, to claim her brilliance as though she were some trophy he could proudly display.
“We’ll see about that,” Brian replied coldly before turning around and walking back toward his car.
Once he was gone, Noah walked over and lowered his voice. “Should we take action against the Nexith Group as well? Teach him a lesson?”

I shook my head slowly, my gaze fixed on the warm restaurant lights glowing from the second floor. “There’s no need,” I answered quietly. “Lianne won’t choose him.”
A trace of exhaustion and melancholy lingered faintly in my voice, something only I understood.
I was certain she would never choose Brian, because I knew how proud she was, how high her standards had always been.
But at the same time, a dull ache spread silently through my chest, because I also knew she would never choose me again, either.
“Prepare the car. We’re leaving,” I instructed calmly.
Now that the Power Group had already been destroyed and the danger surrounding Lianne was gone, she and her team would likely leave Queen District very soon. I no longer had any reason to remain here.
After I returned to the car, Lianne’s gentle voice continued flowing softly through the earpiece.
She was sincerely thanking Jon, my substitute. Her voice was still as warm and soothing as I remembered, quietly easing the exhaustion buried deep inside me.
I slowly tightened my fists until my nails dug painfully into my palms.
I didn’t even dare imagine it. If one day Lianne discovered the truth about that night, discovered that it was actually me holding her, whispering against her ear, and claiming her, would she hate me for it?
Lianne’s POV
The moment I stepped out of the restaurant, my phone suddenly lit up with several missed calls and a message from Frank.
Earlier, he had attempted to reach me through the mind link, but because I was talking to Jon at the time, I had temporarily cut off the connection.
