Chapter 353

Chapter 353:
“Jeremy, this isn’t funny,” I said coldly before ending the call.
Noah brought in food shortly after, insisting I eat something and rest.
I asked him to stay and share the meal with me. The two of us sat by the window in a suffocating silence, neither of us really touching the food.
“Noah, do you find my behavior foolish?” I slowly swirled the wine in my glass, letting out a faint, self-mocking laugh. “I know I should let go, but I still keep chasing Lianne like I’ve lost my mind.”
Noah sighed. “Only those who love completely are the ones who suffer the most,” he said. “You just love her too deeply.”
A bitter smile formed on my lips. Now I finally understood why Alphas who lost their mates were said to spiral into madness.
My sanity already felt like it was hanging by a thread.
“Let’s go back tomorrow,” I said after a long silence, closing my eyes. “Since she’s safe, there’s no reason for me to stay.”

But sleep never came. All night, my mind kept replaying Lianne’s anxious face and the missing child case. Restless and unable to stay still, I unlocked my phone and opened the photo Jeremy had sent earlier.
One glance. That was all it took. I shot upright in bed, my breath catching violently in my throat.
The dim glow of the screen illuminated my face as my pupils tightened sharply.
The boy in the photo looked about three years old, wearing a dark blue hoodie, his head slightly tilted as he stared straight at the camera with an unnervingly calm expression.
Those eyes. That stubborn set of the lips. Even the overwhelming Alpha-like pride in his gaze.
It wasn’t just a resemblance. It was me, reduced into a smaller version of myself.
My mind went completely blank.
I had only ever been with one woman in my life: Lianne. Three years ago, she had walked away from me.
A possibility suddenly exploded in my mind, leaving me frozen in place.
Who exactly was this child?
Ethan’s POV
As I kept staring at the child in the photo, whose face was almost identical to mine, a surge of blood rushed to my head.
I instantly grabbed my phone and called Jeremy.
The call rang for quite a while before he finally picked up. Instead of the usual quiet office atmosphere, loud heavy metal music exploded through the speaker, mixed with the sharp sound of clinking glasses.
“Hello? Ethan? You finally remembered to call me back?” Jeremy shouted drunkenly over the noise. “I’m drinking with a couple of friends who just got back today. You…”
“Enough.” My voice turned cold as my fingers tightened around the phone. “That child in the picture, did you have the photo manipulated? This joke isn’t amusing.”
