Chapter 363:
“Does he know something?” Frank’s hands tightened around the steering wheel, his voice strained. “Lianne, we can’t stay here. We have to leave right now.”
“Wait a second!” Tracy reached for my phone, determination flashing across her face. “The number’s under my name. I’ll answer it. If he asks questions, I’ll pretend he dialed the wrong person or say I don’t know him. Lianne, you’re too emotional right now. The second you speak, he’ll notice something’s off.”
I sat frozen, my thoughts completely blank.
“Mommy, give me the phone.” Silas spoke suddenly. His voice was frighteningly cold for a child barely three years old. He stretched out his small hand toward me, his expression icy. “I can trace his location,” he said quietly. “And I can block him from calling again. He made you sad. I’ll make him pay for it.”
“No, Silas!” I snapped back to reality at once, clutching the phone tightly against my chest.
My heart ached as I looked at the fierce protectiveness on his tiny face.
I couldn’t allow Silas to have any contact with Ethan. Not even through a phone call.
Ethan was far too sharp. One careless word from Silas, and the secret I had fought to protect would come crashing down.
I forced myself to stay calm. First, I needed to know how much Ethan actually knew.

Was he only suspicious, or had he already figured out the truth about Silas?
“Frank, pull over,” I said after taking a deep breath, my eyes turning cold with determination.
“Are you insane? You want to stop here?” Frank shot back.
“If Ethan managed to get this number, then he’s already tracked me down. Running now will only make him chase harder.” I pushed open the car door, and the hot summer wind rushed inside, whipping my hair wildly around my face. “Take the kids and keep driving. Wait for me at the next rest stop. If I don’t contact you within thirty minutes, Frank, take them out of the country. Don’t come back.”
“No way! I’m not leaving you alone to deal with that lunatic!” Frank moved to get out of the car, but Tracy grabbed his arm and held him back.
“Frank, listen to her!” Tracy shouted. “If you go too, you’ll only make things worse. The children are everything to her!”
I didn’t leave them any room to argue. Stepping out of the SUV, I slammed the door shut behind me.
The car remained still for a few seconds in the darkness before finally speeding away.
I watched the taillights disappear into the distance before slowly lowering myself onto the broken bench at a deserted roadside bus stop.
The summer wind blew fiercely, yet the cold it carried seemed to seep straight into my bones.
My eyes stayed fixed on the missed call notification glowing on the screen while my fingers trembled so violently I could barely hold the phone steady.
I inhaled deeply, forcing myself to calm down.
For Silas, I couldn’t afford to lose.
