Chapter 364:
When I closed my eyes, Ethan’s face appeared instantly in my mind, cold, commanding, the kind of man who always held absolute control.
Three years ago, I had been nothing more than his discarded mate.
But this time, I refused to cower again. I wouldn’t let anyone trample over me anymore.
My shaking finger finally pressed the call button.
I listened as the line rang, waiting for Ethan to answer.

The familiar string of numbers glowed eerily in the darkness, like the gaze of a wolf lurking patiently in the shadows.
Each ringtone pierced through the silent night with unsettling sharpness.
Part of me wanted to hang up immediately. I even had the impulse to rip out the SIM card and throw it into the ocean.
But logic stopped me. I couldn’t run.
Ethan was really sharp. Avoiding his call was the same as admitting fear, and fear was the clearest sign of weakness.
For Silas and Ruby, I had no choice but to call him back.
At last, the call connected.
“Hello?” I asked, deliberately keeping my tone cold and detached.
There was no anger from the other side. No interrogation. No fury. Only silence. And beneath that silence, the sound of a man’s restrained breathing.
Even through the phone, it felt as though his cold, woody scent was wrapping itself around me.
“Lianne,” Ethan finally said.
My heartbeat slammed violently against my ribs. I struggled to keep my voice steady. “Sorry, my phone was buried in my bag, so I didn’t hear it. Who’s this?”
A low laugh drifted through the receiver.
“Don’t pretend you don’t know who this is.” His tone was calm, certain, leaving no room for denial.
I fell silent. Every time I tried to lie to Ethan, he could always see right through it.
“If you’ve called for idle chit-chat, save it,” I interrupted icily. “Ethan, we ended things three years ago. I’m sure you haven’t forgotten the rejection you gave me.”
“I went to the hospital,” he said quietly. “I checked your medical records.”
His words hit me like a thunderbolt.
My entire body stiffened, and for one terrifying second, it felt like my heart had stopped beating.
I pressed a hand tightly against my chest, trying to suppress the panic surging upward. “And?” I asked, unable to completely hide the tremor in my voice. “Since when did you become so interested in your ex’s medical history?”
Lianne’s POV
“I checked every record connected to your name. They were all gone. Completely erased. There wasn’t even a prescription for a common cold left behind,” Ethan muttered. “Lianne… what are you so afraid of? Or rather, what are you hiding?”
I felt a huge relief.
Everything had been deleted.
Frank really had handled it perfectly. He hadn’t left behind a single clue for Ethan to find.
Without proof, suspicion meant nothing.
