Chapter 365:
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I stayed composed and said coldly. “Missing files could happen for several reasons. System updates. Technical failures. Did you seriously call me in the middle of the night just to ask about my medical records from three years ago?”
“The child,” he suddenly blurted out. “Did you give birth to a boy?”
My breathing hitched. The relief I had just felt disappeared in an instant. I began to panic really badly and my heart pounded so hard it hurt.
I pressed my lips together and tried to maintain my composure. “I have no idea what you’re talking about. Ethan, are you out of your mind? You saw the miscarriage report yourself back then, didn’t you?”
“This afternoon, a little boy who looks a lot like me broke into Voss Group.” His voice turned rough. “He hacked the company’s security system. Then he posted on Voss Group’s official website and called me a scumbag. He asked for me by name. Said I was his father.”
The moment I heard that, Silas’s stubborn little face appeared in my mind. My heart hurt and it was hard to breathe.
I let out a faint laugh and said with mockery, “Really? Then congratulations on becoming a father. But such scandals are very common in wealthy families. For someone like you, having an illegitimate child suddenly appear shouldn’t be anything unusual.”
“Lianne!” His voice dropped into a warning growl, heavy with anger. “You know exactly what I’m asking. Is that child yours?”
“I already told you, our relationship ended three years ago!” I snapped, raising my voice. My eyes burned fiercely. “Don’t drag some random child into my life and use him as an excuse to bother me. It only makes you look even more disgusting.”

The line went still.
The wind roared past me. I could almost picture him standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window in his office, staring into the darkness with grim eyes, his fists clenched so tightly that his knuckles turned white.
A long moment passed before he spoke again. This time, the suspicion was gone. So was the uncertainty. He was cold and dead calm.
“Then that makes things easier if he isn’t yours.” He paused. Every word that followed felt like a sword through my heart. “Since that child has nothing to do with you, I’ll deal with the little brat who provoked Voss Group however I deem fit. That’s all I have to say.”
He ended the call without another word.
I gripped my phone tightly, then sank back against the bench, completely drained of strength. I closed my eyes and tears streamed down my face.
Deal with. What did Ethan mean by that?
I didn’t dare let myself think too deeply about it.
The wind at the street corner grew stronger, messing up my hair and stripping away the last fragile piece of control I had left.
I drew my knees closer and curled into myself on the bench, not daring to make a sound. I held everything in while the pain tore wildly through me.
Hurting Ethan with my words and denying my bond with Silas, it was the cruelest thing I had ever forced myself to do.
