Chapter 366:
But for Silas’s sake, I had no other choice.
No matter how much it hurt, I had to harden my heart. I had to stay hidden in a place filled with traces of him everywhere I turned.
Ethan’s POV
The dead silence after the call only made my frustration worse.

Lianne denied everything. She said the boy had nothing to do with her. Said he was just some illegitimate child I had had with another woman. Said whatever existed between us had ended long ago.
I leaned back in the rear seat of the car, exhausted. “To the bar,” I said coldly.
I had never liked loud places. I hated crowds. I hated the cloying smell of cheap perfume hanging in the air around women hidden behind layers of makeup even more.
Tonight, I booked the entire place and had everyone sent away. The bar emptied out for me.
I sat alone in the darkest booth in the corner, several bottles of whiskey lined up across the table.
When Jeremy finally showed up, I was drinking straight from the bottle.
The liquor burned like fire as it went down my throat, hurting my stomach. But no matter how much I drank, it couldn’t drown out the cold emptiness gnawing away at my heart.
“Alpha,” Jeremy said the moment he walked in. “You rent out an entire bar, then throw everyone out? Are you planning to drink yourself to death alone tonight?”
He dropped into the seat across from me like he owned it and reached toward my glass. “Want me to call in a few pretty girls? They can dance and keep you company. Better than watching you brood in the dark with a bottle.”
“Enough.” I didn’t even look up. My eyes stayed fixed on the liquor in my hand. “They’re annoying.”
In this world, besides Lianne, no woman’s presence had ever felt bearable to me. Being close to anyone else only filled me with disgust I couldn’t control.
Rejected, Jeremy withdrew his hand and poured himself a drink. “Still no news about Lianne?” he asked after a moment. “Ethan… you should really think about letting her go. It’s been three years. And once she decides something…” He took a sip and shook his head. “She’s more ruthless than any she-wolf I’ve ever met.”
My grip tightened around the bottle. The glass creaked under my fingers.
“I thought that child was hers.” The words came out low, almost lost in the music echoing through the empty bar.
Jeremy froze, then scoffed. “Ethan, be serious. If that kid were really hers, do you think she’d deny it? I’m telling you, it’s probably bait from one of your competitors. A setup. A kid who happens to look like you? That’s nothing these days. Potions, genetic modification, anyone with money can create a miniature version of you if they want. Someone wants to crash Voss Group’s stock, stir up chaos, and ruin your reputation. It’s nothing new.”
