Chapter 369:
The second the door clicked shut, the last thread holding me together snapped. My body slid helplessly down against the door until I sank onto the cold floor.
Try to sleep? How could I possibly sleep?
My mind replayed Ethan’s low, restrained growl over and over, along with those words that still made my chest ache.
Did he really believe me when I said Silas wasn’t my child? Or was this only the terrifying calm before everything exploded?
In the end, I couldn’t stop myself.
At two in the morning, after making sure Frank had returned to his room, I quietly slipped out of the hotel alone.
As if drawn by something I could never escape, I hailed a taxi and gave the driver the address engraved deepest into my soul, the villa Ethan and I had once shared three years ago.
It was the place that held all our happiest memories. The place where I had fallen in love for the first, and only, time in my life.
The taxi stopped beneath the shadows of the trees outside the villa district.
I stepped out slowly and walked toward the familiar building hidden in the darkness.
Under the moonlight, the villa looked unbearably lonely.

My eyes lifted instinctively to the second-floor living room. The light was still on.
He must still be working.
Ethan had never become a top Alpha through luck alone. Everything he possessed had been earned through sleepless nights, endless meetings, and handling every crisis personally.
Back then, I used to nag him constantly about resting more. And every time, he would pull me into his arms, his rough fingers stroking the back of my neck as he whispered against my ear, “Lianne, I need to become strong enough to protect you.”
At the time, I thought those words were love.
Only later did I understand, they were just an Alpha’s possessiveness.
Yet even knowing that, I still couldn’t deny the warmth he once gave me.
For that brief stretch of time, he had given me something that truly felt like home. Back then, I wasn’t anyone’s replacement. I was simply Lianne.
Rain began falling without warning.
The icy droplets struck my skin, cold enough to seep into my bones.
Still, I didn’t move to hide from it. I simply stood beneath the enormous plane tree, staring at that single glowing light.
One last time, I told myself.
After tonight, I would take Silas and Ruby far away from all of this. Somewhere without werewolves. Without Alphas. Without Ethan. Without the Voss Group. A place where we could finally start over.
Time passed slowly as the rain grew heavier and heavier.
At last, the light in the living room went dark.
A sharp pang of ache shot through my heart.
It was over. This painful goodbye had finally come to an end.
Pulling my soaked clothes tighter around myself, I gave a quiet, self-mocking smile and stepped out from beneath the trees.
But the instant I took that first step, the villa’s heavy wooden door suddenly swung open from the inside.
