Chapter 371:
Nothing had changed. Not even the cushions on the sofa had moved from where I left them three years ago.
The villa was spotless, untouched by time, as though the house itself had spent those years silently waiting for its mistress to return.
My breathing became shallow as I quietly approached the master bedroom. Slowly, I pushed the door open.
Ethan was asleep on the large bed, lying on his side without even covering himself properly.
He wore a black silk pajama shirt, the collar hanging loosely open.
Even in sleep, his brows were tightly furrowed. Under the pale moonlight, his handsome face looked strangely exhausted, fragile in a way that made my chest ache painfully.
I knelt beside the bed carefully.
This man, who once controlled everything, now looked restless even in his dreams. An invisible hand seemed to squeeze tightly around my heart.
Unable to stop myself, I slowly reached out. My trembling fingertips brushed gently against the crease between his brows, trying to smooth it away.
“I’m sorry, Ethan…” My voice cracked as tears fell uncontrollably. “I’m sorry… but this was the only way I could protect our children.”
A sob escaped me. “You need to understand, the moment you imprisoned me back then, whatever existed between us died completely. There was never any way back after that.”

His skin felt unnaturally hot beneath my fingers.
As if greedy for one final memory, my hand slowly traced the sharp lines of his face.
Perhaps sensing the touch, Ethan murmured something incoherent in his sleep and shifted slightly.
His pajama shirt slipped lower on his shoulder.
I went completely still, my pupils shrinking the moment I laid eyes on it.
Near the curve of his shoulder, just below the back of his neck, were several faint bite marks.
They had already healed long ago, leaving behind uneven pale scars beneath the moonlight.
At first, I thought they were the marks I had left on him years ago.
But the moment my shaking fingers brushed against them, I realized they weren’t.
Having once been marked by him, I understood exactly what those marks meant between werewolves. Possession. Intimacy. Claiming. Primal and unmistakable.
For the very first time, jealousy consumed me so fiercely it became difficult to breathe. Only then did I truly understand what it felt like to be devoured by envy.
How could I forget? Ethan was already engaged.
He had someone new now. A mate worthy of standing openly at his side. A woman who could share his nights, wrapped in his arms and his affection without shame or secrecy.
And the grand mating ceremony, the sacred werewolf vow symbolizing lifelong devotion, was something he had never once given to me.
So what had I ever been to him? A runaway who had his children in secret? An abandoned former lover?
The truth struck me hard enough to snap me back to reality.
I jerked away from him as though burned, stumbling backward until my hip slammed into the cold bedside table.
What was I even doing?
