Chapter 389:
I opened my mouth to speak, but no words came out. A thousand fears and frustrations churned inside me, yet I couldn’t voice a single one. The suffocating sense of helplessness washed over me completely. In that moment, I understood that I was powerless. And against the might of absolute authority and deception, protecting my children felt nearly impossible.
I didn’t agree with Frank, but I didn’t refuse him either.
I just stood there, letting the cold wind tangle my hair into a mess.
I would find a way to keep Silas safe, and to crush Ivy so completely she would never rise again. Even if it meant walking back into Ethan’s life and ripping open every wound I had spent years trying to heal.
As long as it meant saving Silas, I would do whatever it took.
Ethan’s POV
The ICU corridor remained empty. Through the thick glass, I watched Jeremy lying in the hospital bed, covered in tubes.

He still hadn’t woken up. The face that was usually alive with a reckless, carefree grin now looked completely lifeless.
I stayed by his side for a while without speaking. The heavy scent of disinfectant hung in the air as I stood there in silence, then turned and walked away.
Once I was in the car, Noah shot me a look through the rearview mirror, his face somber.
He passed me a tablet. A red location marker blinked on the screen.
“We’ve made progress on Silas’s abduction.” Noah dropped his voice. “The last known location connected to the kidnapper was near a private clinic.”
I locked my eyes onto the location marker, a flash of icy determination shining in them. My voice went cold. “Investigate it. Vet every single person connected to that location, doctors, nurses, even passersby. Use whatever means necessary. I want to know precisely who took Silas that day.”
“Understood.” Noah gave a nod, and the car began to roll forward slowly.
After a brief silence, Noah appeared reluctant, but he spoke anyway. “About what Ivy said last night, I know it sounds absurd, but just to be cautious, should we have Silas take a paternity test with her? What if—”
My hand stopped halfway to opening the laptop. I lifted my eyes to the rearview mirror and pinned him with an icy stare.
“What if what?” My voice carried a suffocating menace. “Are you suggesting I don’t recognize my own son? Or that I should take some deranged accusation seriously enough to haul my son in for a blood test?”
Noah went silent for a moment, clearly choosing his words carefully. “I only meant,” he said at last, “that having concrete proof would shut her down completely.”
I didn’t look at him immediately. The laptop clicked shut with a soft sound as I leaned back into the leather seat. “My son isn’t a bargaining chip,” I said flatly. “He’s not a pawn in anyone’s game.”
My gaze stayed fixed ahead. “If I forced him to take a test against his will, what would he think of me? He already resents me. I won’t make that wound deeper by betraying his trust. Besides, I don’t believe a single word that comes out of Ivy’s mouth.”
Ivy didn’t have the genetic makeup to produce a prodigy like Silas.
