Chapter 393:
“It’s… fine,” he mumbled, mouth stuffed, though the way he kept shoveling food in told the real story.
He ate ravenously, like he hadn’t had a decent meal in forever. Then, lost in some happy memory, he blurted, “This is delicious! If my sister were here, she’d love this too. She likes that perfect sweet-and-savory balance!”
My hand stopped cold around my glass.
“Sister?” I stared at Silas, my voice coming out hoarse. “Silas, what did you just say? You have a sister?”
Ethan’s POV
“That’s… that’s my neighbor’s daughter!” Silas rushed to defend himself, his little hand tightening around the fork.
I calmly set the last plate of vegetables on the table before taking my seat across from him.
I didn’t raise my voice. I didn’t show even a trace of anger. I was calm. But the look in my eyes was enough to make the air between us feel heavy.

“Silas, children shouldn’t lie so much.” I met his gaze and said softly, “The look on your face already gave you away. She’s not your neighbor, is she? You have a sister, don’t you? Your mother gave birth to two children, didn’t she?”
I caught it clearly. That brief flicker of panic in his eyes.
And that was more than enough. It was the strongest proof I could have hoped for.
Pretending to be vulnerable earlier had worked exactly as I intended. It had made this overly clever little boy let his guard down.
“I’m not eating anymore!” Silas’s expression darkened. He shoved his plate aside and jumped up from the chair, clearly ready to leave.
I moved faster. My hand closed around his wrist before he could get away.
I kept my grip controlled, firm enough to stop him and gentle enough not to hurt.
“Dinner isn’t over yet,” I said firmly. “You’re not leaving.”
“Let me go! I’ll cry so loud everyone in this territory will know you’re abusing a child!” he yelled in frustration.
I shrugged and leaned back slightly. I then said with amusement, “Go ahead. There’s no one within kilometers of this place. And you hacked the security system, remember? You should know better than anyone that even if you scream until your throat gives out, no one is coming to save you.”
Silas’s face turned bright red with anger. Clearly, he had never met an adult more shameless than himself.
He dropped back into his chair with a huff, looking deeply offended. “Stop asking me questions,” he muttered angrily. “Or I’m really going on a hunger strike!”
“Deal.” I agreed immediately with a smile and added a piece of broccoli to his plate. “Eat more vegetables. They’re good for your health.”
After he calmed down, he picked up a large piece of meat and stuffed it into his mouth. Then I casually laid another trap. “So… your mom remarried and then had your sister?”
“My mom didn’t remarry!” Silas shot back instantly, loud and certain.
The moment the words came out, his whole body froze. He realized it too late. He had fallen into another trap.
