Chapter 394:
With an angry clatter, he slammed his utensils onto the table. His face was filled with frustration as he pushed back his chair and made to leave again.
“Alright.” I raised both hands in surrender. “I promise. No more questions tonight.”
I softened my tone, trying to calm him before his anger overwhelmed him.
Then he reluctantly sat back down. Still sulking, he resumed eating.
I watched him quietly, but the shock inside me wouldn’t settle.
Tonight’s dinner had given me far more than I ever expected.
Not only had I confirmed that Silas was my biological son, I had also found out something else. I might have a daughter too.
If Silas had a younger sister, and if his mother had never remarried, then that little girl could also be mine. Were they twins?

“What? You want me transferred to Voss Group headquarters?”
The moment I got the call from Voss Group’s HR department, it felt like a bolt of lightning had struck me. My whole body went rigid. I stood frozen in place, unable to move.
My phone slipped from my fingers and hit the desk with a dull thud.
My thoughts spiraled into chaos and my head buzzed with panic. My first instinct was terrifying. Did Ethan find out the truth? Did he discover that Silas was my biological son?
No. I tried to breathe. I had to calm down.
If Ethan had truly learned the truth, he wouldn’t be handling it through a formal HR notice. With his temperament, he would already be at my doorstep with his pack. He wouldn’t wait.
“Nexith Group has been fully acquired by Voss Group. Under the revised terms of the acquisition contract, your employment status has officially been transferred to Voss Group’s investment division…” The voice on the other end remained polite, professional, and cold. With each word spoken, I felt more suffocated.
But I couldn’t believe it.
Nexith Group may not have been as massive as Voss Group, but it was Brian’s life’s work. He built it from nothing. He fought for every inch of it. How could he possibly sell it so easily?
My fingers trembled as I dialed Brian’s number.
The phone rang for a long time. When he finally answered, his voice sounded rough and exhausted, like someone who hadn’t slept in days.
“Brian, is it true?” I asked immediately. “Did Voss Group really acquire Nexith Group?”
“It’s true, Lianne.” He fell silent for a moment before speaking again. His voice sounded deeply weary. “I tried everything. But Ethan used underhanded financial maneuvers to cut off every source of our funding. Then he forced a buyout at three times the market value. I didn’t even get the chance to resist.”
My heart dropped.
“Why would he do that?” I asked under my breath, my palms slick with cold sweat.
“He said…” Brian gave a bitter laugh. “He said he didn’t want me chasing after you anymore.”
His voice turned softer and filled with helpless self-mockery. “Lianne… I’m sorry. I couldn’t save the company. He’s your boss now. And he specifically asked for you to report directly to his office.”
