Chapter 397:
I hid the cold fury in my eyes and greeted him courteously, then filled him in on the arrangements made with the witch. “I’ve brought in more highly skilled specialists. They should arrive no later than tomorrow. You need to go home and rest. I’ll remain here and monitor the situation.”
Brian stood close, bloodshot eyes locked on me, fists clenched and white-knuckled.
I could see he was barely containing himself, holding back the impulse to hit me in front of Jeremy’s father.
“I’ll see Ethan to the door and question him about the specialists.” Brian cut in abruptly, speaking directly to Jeremy’s father.
Jeremy’s father didn’t pick up on the tension between us and nodded in agreement.
Once we were outside the hospital and I had confirmed the area was clear, Brian moved quickly, positioning himself in front of my car door.
“What are you really playing at?” he spat through gritted teeth, his chest pounding with anger. “Hostile takeover of Nexith Group, strangling our capital… You think that’s business? That’s nothing but low-handed tactics.”
Ethan’s POV
A faint smile touched my lips as I casually undid the cuffs of my shirt. I folded the fabric back neatly, revealing my toned forearms.

“Acquisitions are part of business. Nexith Group’s financial statements are full of gaps. I’m simply stepping in before the losses grow worse.” I lifted my gaze to Brian, meeting his eyes with no emotion. “And as for calling my tactics low-handed, Brian, business has always been a battlefield. Is this your first day in the game?”
“Don’t play dumb!” Brian growled, his voice shaking with fury. “You did this because of Lianne, didn’t you? You’re so obsessed with dragging her back to you that you’d tear down everything I’ve spent years building without blinking. Someone like you has no right to talk about love. All you know is how to take and win by force!”
I raised a brow at his accusation, more amused than offended. “Really? And what proof do you have that buying Nexith Group has anything to do with Lianne? On paper, this is nothing but a successful premium acquisition.”
My answer left him momentarily speechless, his face flushing red with anger.
“Instead of standing here picking a fight with me,” I said, giving his shoulder a light pat as if advising someone far less experienced, “you’d be better off trying to raise capital. If you can gather enough shares from the retail investors before the transfer is completed, you may still be able to keep your seat on the board.”
“I will!” Brian shot back, his eyes filled with bitterness. “I’ll buy them back at twice the price. With pure cash. Ethan, do you really think having money makes you untouchable?”
“Twice the price?” I couldn’t stop myself from laughing. It was the most ridiculous thing I had heard. “Fine. Then I wish you luck. Let’s hope your bank account can match your ambition.”
I turned without another word and reached for the car door.
Driven mad by how little attention I gave him, Brian slammed his palm against the door before I could get in.
