Chapter 398:
He pointed at me and yelled in anger, “Coward! Do you have the guts to admit it in front of everyone? Admit that you’re doing all of this because you want Lianne back. Admit that you still can’t let go of the woman whose heart you broke.”
I stopped. Then I turned my head slowly to face him. My expression didn’t change. I looked at him with arrogance and confidence.
“Have I ever denied it?” I asked, my voice calm and measured.
Holding his gaze without wavering, I continued, “Brian, anyone who knows me well knows that there has only ever been one woman in my life that I’ve loved, and that woman is Lianne. I want her, yes. And I fully intend to bring her back to where she belongs, back by my side, with every rightful claim she deserves.”
“You…” Brian stared at me, visibly shaken by how openly I said it. His body went rigid and disbelief was written all over his face.
“And as for whether we reconcile,” I sneered and added coldly, “that is between Lianne and me. It has nothing to do with you. If you enjoy playing the hero so much, you should worry about whether your bank loan gets approved first. Move out of my way.”
I brushed his hand away from the door and sat in the driver’s seat.
I pressed the accelerator, and the engine roared to life.

In the rearview mirror, I caught sight of Brian standing in the haze of exhaust fumes, yelling after me in frustration. I felt nothing for him but contempt.
Inside the Thorn Pack’s grand hall, the air was so heavy it was suffocating.
The pack elders sat along both sides of the long table. They were advanced in age, but it had done nothing to dim the hunger in their eyes. Their greed for power burned as fiercely as ever.
Today’s meeting centered on the future of the pack’s expansion. Having already secured unmatched dominance at home, the Thorn Pack now had two choices. One was to absorb the smaller subordinate packs across the region. The other was to step beyond domestic borders and expand into the international market.
“I support expansion beyond our borders,” I said, tapping my fingers lightly against the tabletop in a steady rhythm. My voice carried clearly through the chamber. “When power remains confined to one place for too long, it invites unnecessary envy. What we need is access to global resources, not pointless fights over territory with young packs on a stretch of land this small.”
The elders didn’t look pleased. To them, annexing territory had always been the clearest and most direct manifestation of power.
“Alpha,” one of the eldest among them said at last, lifting his clouded eyes to meet mine, “if you truly support outward expansion and oppose internal conflict, then explain this. Why, at such a critical moment, did you divert substantial funds into the forced acquisition of Nexith Group? Doesn’t that go against everything you just said?”
I had seen the question coming.
