Chapter 402:
“Fine. If that’s what you want.” With a sad countenance, he turned away from me. “If this will make you feel better, if it lets me stay by your side and continue protecting you, then I’ll do it. Even if it means marrying someone I don’t love, I’ll accept it.”
As I stared at his retreating figure, my strength gave out completely. I leaned weakly against the doorframe while tears poured down my face. I felt guilty and sorry.
Ethan’s POV
When I drove back into the villa district, the sun had just set.

On my way, I pulled over at the market and selected the freshest organic vegetables along with several brightly colored fruits from the stalls.
Carrying the bags upstairs, I instinctively glanced toward the living room on the second floor.
The soft yellow light shining from inside instantly eased the exhaustion and tension that had weighed on me the entire day.
I smiled unconsciously.
This villa had been a cold, transient lodging to me. But ever since that smart, sweet little boy came in, the house had gradually begun to feel warm again in a way I hadn’t experienced in years.
I had canceled every unnecessary social engagement just to spend more time with him. Even international meetings had been moved to my study so I could handle them from home.
The moment I opened the door, I saw exactly what I expected. Silas was sitting cross-legged on the sofa with my laptop resting on his lap. His small brows were tightly furrowed in concentration while his fingers moved rapidly across the keyboard as he studied my security system.
At this point, he no longer bothered hiding what he was doing. He was openly trying to crack the protection program on my laptop, though he still hadn’t managed to break through the final firewall.
“What do you want for dinner?” I asked casually as I placed the shopping bags down and shrugged off my suit jacket.
Only then did Silas finally lift his head from the screen.
He quickly slid on the oversized slippers and ran toward the door. He tilted his little face upward. It felt as though I was looking at a small version of myself. His wide eyes were filled with genuine concern. “Did you visit the hospital today?” he asked anxiously. “How is Jeremy doing now?”
Ethan’s POV
The moment Jeremy’s name came up, something in my chest tightened.
For the first time, I bent down and pulled the little boy gently into my arms.
He smelled faintly sweet, warm, and soft in a way that quietly melted even the coldest part of me.
“He’s still unconscious,” I told him honestly, my voice low but steady. “But don’t worry. I’ve already arranged for the top doctors and a witch to come. Once they get here, Jeremy will get better.”
Silas’s brow furrowed right away, his little face tightening with unexpected gravity before he released a heavy sigh. “I want to go see him. He was always the one who bought me treats… He was so kind to me.”
“Alright. I’ll take you tomorrow,” I agreed without hesitation, warmth spreading through my chest.
