Chapter 403

Chapter 403:
For all his sharp tongue and stubborn attitude, the kid had a genuinely soft heart. Jeremy’s affection for him clearly had not been misplaced.
After settling Silas down, I tied on an apron and headed into the kitchen.
If the executives at the company saw this scene, an Alpha who ruled the boardroom with ruthless precision during the day, now standing in a kitchen cooking for a child, they would probably think they were hallucinating.
But strangely enough, I enjoyed it. The steady rhythm of chopping vegetables in the quiet kitchen eased the tension coiled tightly inside me.

Half an hour later, three dishes and a pot of soup were arranged neatly on the table.
Silas sat at the dining table with his laptop still clutched in his arms, but his expression looked utterly defeated.
“What’s wrong?” I asked with a faint chuckle as I ladled soup into his bowl. “Still can’t crack it?”
“What kind of normal person writes code like that?” he complained furiously, shoving the laptop aside before stabbing a finger toward the screen. “You deliberately stuffed the logic chain full of dead loops just to torture me, didn’t you?”
I shrugged and calmly placed a rib onto his plate. “You’re the one who claimed there isn’t a system in the world you can’t break into. Silas, admit it. I still know a few tricks you don’t.”
“Don’t get cocky too soon!” He stuffed the rib into his mouth and mumbled stubbornly between bites, “Anything designed by a person has weaknesses. I’ll definitely find yours eventually and dig out every secret you’re hiding!”
My hand paused slightly around the utensils.
Weaknesses?
For a brief moment, silence settled over me before a familiar face surfaced uncontrollably in my mind, cold, stubborn, unforgettable. A face that had haunted me for the past three years.
“I do have a weakness,” I said quietly, my tone strangely soft as I looked at him. “It’s a person. Her name is Lianne Riley.”
The moment the name left my mouth, Silas nearly choked.
He looked as though he had been struck by lightning. His eyes widened in horror, and the soup he had not swallowed sprayed straight out of his mouth.
He coughed violently while fumbling for tissues, his small face flushed bright red as his eyes darted around in panic.
I handed him a tissue and patted his back slowly, narrowing my eyes as I observed his unusually flustered reaction.
“Why are you so shocked?” I asked casually, a faint smirk tugging at my lips. “Do you know her?”
“No! No, I don’t!” he denied immediately between coughs, sounding far too defensive. “I just think it’s ridiculous that someone as cold-blooded as you could actually have a weakness!”
Watching him overreact so dramatically only deepened my suspicions.
His reaction was far from normal. If he truly did not know Lianne, he would have been curious at most. He would never react like this, as though he had just been caught hiding something important.
Still, I chose not to push him further.
I knew he still guarded himself carefully around me.
