Chapter 405:
“Oh please, you’re way too loyal,” Alex scoffed dramatically, rolling his eyes. He was about to continue rambling when the noisy waiting area suddenly fell silent. The shift in atmosphere was immediate.
A powerful Alpha presence swept through the room, cold and oppressive, carrying that familiar razor-sharp edge I knew too well.
My entire body stiffened instantly.
That aura. Even after three years, I would recognize it anywhere.
Ethan was here.
Lianne’s POV
A tall, imposing figure strode slowly into the waiting room.
Dressed in a flawlessly tailored black suit, he carried himself with the same commanding presence I remembered too well. The crisp sound of leather shoes against the marble floor echoed through the room, each step calm and deliberate.
I immediately lowered my head, staring fixedly at my shoes while my hands locked tightly together, my nails digging hard into my palms.

I prayed desperately that he was only passing through.
But reality had never once been merciful to me.
“Lianne.” That low, magnetic voice cut cleanly through the silence above my head. The same voice that had once murmured tender words against my ear in the middle of the night. The same voice that had later shattered me completely.
No greeting. No small talk. Just my name, spoken with terrifying precision.
My body went rigid as I slowly lifted my head, only to crash straight into those deep, unreadable eyes.
Time seemed to stop in that instant.
Beneath his composed expression, emotions churned violently like a storm trapped beneath dark water.
He looked like a predator that had waited patiently for three years, finally watching its prey walk back into its territory on its own.
And under that gaze, I could barely breathe. My heart felt trapped beneath an invisible weight, squeezing tighter and tighter until even breathing became painful.
Three years had passed, yet nothing between us had truly faded. If anything, time had only sharpened the old damage, reopening those half-healed wounds the moment we met again.
“Come to my office.” His voice remained calm, but his eyes lingered on me for one extra second, intense and possessive enough to make my entire body tremble.
Then he turned and walked away, his broad back as cold and distant as ever.
I stood there frozen, staring blankly in the direction he had disappeared, my hands and feet completely numb.
I had no idea what he wanted from me.
After dropping those words, Ethan walked away without another glance, his tall figure vanishing into the corridor while I remained rooted in place beneath everyone’s stares.
For a second, I honestly thought he had gone insane.
Back when we were together, Ethan had always kept work and private matters strictly separate. Even as an Alpha, he had been absurdly careful about hiding our relationship inside the company.
At most, he would secretly have his driver wait at a secluded exit after work, or steal a brief kiss in an empty break room when no one was around.
But today, in front of an entire room full of employees, he had walked in personally and called my name in that unmistakably intimate tone.
