Chapter 410:
The reckless words burst out before I could think. Part defiance. Part desperation. Part of me simply wanted to provoke him.
The moment the sentence ended, Ethan suddenly stood up.
His tall figure immediately swallowed the space between us, the sharp black suit emphasizing the terrifying dominance that came naturally to him.
He moved out from behind his desk and walked toward me slowly, each step carefully measured.
My first reaction was to retreat, but the office wasn’t big enough. Soon enough, I found myself backed into a corner with the wall behind me.
“Why… why are you coming closer?” I stammered, panic creeping into my voice as I instinctively pressed both hands against his chest. Even through the thin fabric of his shirt, I could feel the strong, steady rhythm of his heartbeat beneath my palms.
He continued forward. Then he lowered himself, pressing his palms to the wall at my left and right, trapping me fully inside his reach.
“There is no misunderstanding.” His voice dropped low and rough beside my ear, every word carrying an intensity heavy enough to shake me. “I’ve always loved you. And I never stopped.”
The unwavering certainty in his voice shattered the last of my composure. “Lianne…” His eyes held mine completely captive. “You know exactly how I’ve lived these past three years, don’t you?”
My eyes widened instantly. For a moment, my mind went utterly blank, as if something had struck deep inside me and shattered every thought.

Ethan stood far too close, so near that my own terrified reflection shimmered in the depths of his gaze.
The sharp cedarwood scent clung to him, mingling with the warmth of his breath, wrapping around me like an inescapable cage. It felt suffocating, as though an invisible net was slowly tightening, stripping away the last threads of my rationality.
This was not the revenge I had expected. Not the humiliation I had prepared myself for. This was a confession of love.
The arrogant, unapproachable Alpha who had once walked away from me after ruining everything was now, three years later, laying his wounded heart bare before me.
My heart slammed against my ribs so hard it felt like they were about to break. Panic mixed with something tender, something much more dangerous, swirling into a turbulent chaos within me.
I couldn’t bring myself to look him in the eye, much less answer. Flustered, I pushed his arm away and ducked under the small space it left. I did not even pause to grab my bag. My fingers fumbled at the office door before I bolted out and ran straight into the elevator.
Only when the doors slowly closed did I collapse against the wall, clutching my chest as I struggled to catch my breath.
It had to be an illusion. It had to be. How could words like that ever come out of Ethan’s mouth?
He clearly had a new mate. A new life. He must have been toying with me just now, trying to humiliate me all over again.
