Chapter 412:
An hour later, I stood beside Ethan’s reserved parking spot, clutching my bag tightly.
I had already made up my mind. In the car, I would hand him my resignation letter.
Even if it meant enduring a six-month notice period or taking on a crushing financial penalty, I had to get out of this mess.
Footsteps approached from behind.

My whole body went rigid. I couldn’t bring myself to turn around. Ethan walked to the car, unlocked it with a graceful press, and said in his typically steady voice, “Get in.”
I did not argue and quietly slid into the passenger seat.
The silence inside the car felt suffocating, broken only by the low hum of the air conditioner.
My palms were damp with sweat, and I silently counted his breaths in my head, trying to ease the suffocating pressure closing in on me.
“Have you gone through the project documents?” Ethan broke the silence, his long, slender fingers loosely resting on the steering wheel while his eyes stayed fixed on the road ahead.
“Not really. There wasn’t enough time,” I answered tensely.
“That’s fine. Take them home and look them over tonight,” he said casually.
I turned my head toward the window, watching the city blur by in streaks of light. I wanted to mention my resignation, but the moment I registered the route, my heart suddenly sank with shock.
This wasn’t the way to the business district. It was the road leading out of the city, toward his secluded private mansion.
“Shouldn’t we be meeting the partners?” I straightened up, my tone cutting with panic. “Ethan, this is the wrong direction. The restaurant isn’t this way!”
Ethan shot me a quick look through the rearview mirror. His expression was calm, almost tender. And the slight lift of his lips made my chest constrict for reasons I couldn’t quite understand.
“The partners rescheduled,” he said in a warm, even voice. “Before that, I need to stop by my place to prepare lunch for my son.”
His son? Those two words struck like a sudden bolt of lightning, freezing my thoughts completely.
Since when did he have a son? Unless…
I spun toward him, desperately scanning his face for any hint of a flaw in his expression.
But Ethan stayed utterly composed. So composed that with each passing second, my dread only grew.
He had to be testing me, waiting for me to lose my composure and confess with my own mouth that Silas was our child.
Lianne’s POV
I sat in the passenger seat, my nails digging into the leather upholstery.
My thoughts were in turmoil, frantically trying to figure out how to handle what was about to happen.
Outside the window, the cityscape gradually faded into a more desolate stretch of road. When the familiar outline of the private mansion finally came into view, my heart pounded so hard it felt like it might burst out of my chest.
