Chapter 414:
After hanging up, I turned around, only to find Ethan already standing there, his displeased eyes locked on me.
He had been right behind me the entire time, shamelessly listening in on my private call.
“You’re having him pick you up tonight?” He stepped closer, his voice sharp and edged with suspicion. “What exactly are you planning to do with him tonight?”
His question snapped something inside me that had been tightly restrained all morning.
I let out a cold laugh and tilted my chin up to meet his gaze head-on. “Alpha, isn’t that a bit much? You can spend your nights with your new mate, letting her leave those filthy bite marks on you. But I can’t even see my own mate?”
The moment the words left my mouth, regret followed instantly.
The air went deathly still at once.

Ethan’s expression froze for a split second before shifting. The anger in his eyes faded, replaced by a cool, searching look.
His eyes narrowed, and his voice dropped into something hoarse and dangerous. “You’ve seen my shoulder?”
My chest constricted, and my breath hitched.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I said quickly, turning my face away. But the tremor in my voice betrayed me.
“You don’t know?” Ethan leaned closer, his hot breath tickling my ear and making me shiver. “So how did you find out about the bite marks on my shoulders?”
I bit my lip hard, forcing myself to hold my ground. “You have a new mate, so of course intimacy is normal. It’s not hard to guess how those marks got there. There’s no need to parade your private life in front of me.”
“Oh? Intimacy?” Ethan gave a low chuckle, his voice smooth and dangerously amused.
His fingertips grazed my burning cheek, his voice taking on a playful, unashamed edge. “But your face is turning red, Lianne. What’s going through your mind? Me in bed with another woman? Or are you jealous of whoever left those marks on my shoulder?”
His audacity left me shaking all over with rage.
Three years ago, he had been domineering, but never like this.
Now it was as if his every gentlemanly restraint had shattered, leaving behind something raw and untamed.
“Let me go!” I shoved his chest, but he caught my wrist effortlessly.
“Get inside,” he said icily, his hold on me tightening as he dragged me toward the house. “Since you’re so interested in my personal life, you might as well witness it firsthand.”
My heart was racing as he dragged me forward, and I silently prayed Silas would not slip up later.
The moment the door opened, a familiar chill washed over me.
Silas was curled up on the sofa, a sleek black laptop balanced on his lap, fingers moving rapidly across the keyboard.
Hearing the sound, he looked up, and his wide eyes, so much like mine, lit up with a flicker of barely contained excitement.
I shot him a quick look, silently telling him to stay calm.
